Formula milk at hospital

Hi everyone

This might seem like a really stupid question but I’m a first time mum and still pretty clueless about a lot of things!

I’ve purchased some new born formula in quite a big tub. Would you suggest buying a small tub (if there is one) to take to hospital with me or shall I just take the whole thing?

Also, in terms of bottles, will I be able to sterilise them there if anyone knows?

I have seen something similar about a ‘starter pack’ for formula but haven’t been to a supermarket to see if there’s any there. Are they worth buying?

Any help would be greatly appreciatedSmile

I gave birth in April and the hospital provided formula. Most hospitals won’t have sterilising facilities on the PN ward. If you are taking ready made formula, remember that babies feed little and often at first (mine we only taking 1-5ml from a syringe at first) and ready made formula needs to be refrigerated after an hour.

Did anyone else find the flow on those hospital pack bottles too fast? We used some for topping up while establishing breastfeeding but DS spluttered on them then threw it all back up! I noticed those tears had three holes in while seem a lot for a newborn. He did much better on the Mam newborn teats which only have one hole. That said, DS was later diagnosed with swallow issues so maybe it’s not a problem for most babies.

No, but neither of my babies could drink from those teats! They are the awful orthodontic shape. Neither of mine could get much out. As soon as we were at home and on regular shaped teats, they were fine.

I’m due my third in a few weeks and have bought the starter packs again as have no choice really, am expecting the same problem.
