Hi all
Had a scan 29th july showed heartbeat and baby measuring 10.5 weeks along, been fretting since because they never checked rate of HB but someone told me midwife does that at later stage? Had a mmc a yr and half ago so im very paranoid, read stats that risk of MC is lower once HB is seen, still have another 8 days till next scan so nervous!
Has anyone had a good experience with a doppler? Read online unless your trained they are hard to use but then seen youtube vids of people doing it making it look easy! Im such a nervous anxious person i just can't relax, my symtoms have almost dissapeared which is conerning me too!

Any advice would be great x

If you havent had training then Doppler's are a definite no go. They can cause more stress when you can't find what you think you should and false reassurance when you don't know if you are listening to the right thing.
Anxiety after a MMC is completely normal. I would call your midwife and explain how you are feeling, she may be able to reassure you and give you current facts about the miscarriage risk at this point. They are alot lot lower after 10 weeks and seeing the heartbeat but I completely understand the not trusting it until you get further along and know that everything is ok. I am currently in this position at the moment and it's driving me mad with anxiety.
Hope some more people come along soon ☺️

I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious. Do mention this to your midwife as there is lots of support out there for maternal mental health.

A home Doppler is a really bad idea. As pp said, unless you're trained in their use and know what you're listening for, they give false worry and false reassurance.

The midwife won't routinely listen to baby's heart beat until at least the 16 week appointment. Reason being is that it can be heard to find / hear until then. Seeing the heartbeat on the scan is good.

No advice but just wanted to say I hope everything goes well for you and little one!

I've never been told the heartbeat rate, I would assume if nothing is mentioned then everything is normal. If it wasn't, it would be discussed with you.

It's really hard in early pregnancy, especially after a loss. Unfortunately there's not much you can do but cross your fingers and wait for each scan. As pp have said, home dopplers are not a great idea. I've been in a few times for monitoring and even then, sometimes they've struggled to find the baby's heartbeat and it takes a few mins! You can also easily confuse it with the placenta/your artery as they sound similar.

I would try to chat with your midwife about your anxiety and they should be able to help reassure you. Good luck x

Thank you so much for your reply! Thats fine I wont be getting one i have read up a bit more this morning on them and my anxiety is bad as it is so if i didnt hear a HB on it that would drive me insane. I had a midwife telephone app yesterday but to be honest my worries were not settled she was in a hurry to take my details etc so I didnt want to carry on ranting to her, there are a few other services online so I will try something else, i dont really have anyoje close to speak to about it and reassure me you see, thank you and i hope all goes well with your pregnancy Xx

No worries, Mumsnet is really good for asking random questions like this ☺️ there's also usually a board for women who are due the same month you are - I'm in an 'October babies' group so we're all at similar stages and can chat with each other and ask questions. You should be able to find one on the pregnancy board for whenever you're due!
