IVF HCG Levels. Just one test?

Hi all. I'll keep this short(ish) and sweet!

My wife is over five weeks pregnant from IVF (we already have one DD from previous IVF treatment) but started bleeding five days after testing a BFP. Almost a week after the bleed (it lasted six hours, soaked two pads then stopped and, thankfully, hasn't returned), we're still getting BFPs when we test. In-fact, the CBD test is giving us a reading of 3+.

The wife went to our clinic at the start of the week for a beta HCG test. They called today and said everything looks absolutely fine and the numbers are what they expect to see at this stage. Now...correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the whole point of the beta HCG tests are to see if the numbers are increasing? Our clinic didn't mention this on the phone today...why? Instead, they've offered to bring our seven-week scan forward (we're getting scanned next Tuesday), to "put our minds at rest".

I'm so confused by this. Isn't one HCG test a bit...pointless? Even if the numbers look good?

No because there is an average that it should be for the stage that you are at. If you wanted to know what rate the baby was growing at, you would need 2 tests.
If your wife is measuring at the right level for her stage, they are assuming everything is fine.

I'm an IVF pregnancy too, I'm 23+6 and had a big bleed at 8 weeks and 11 weeks but baby was fine, thank God.

Thanks for reply Pinktruffle and I'm so glad everything seems to be working out well for you. It's been a stressful few days. Roll on next Tuesday when we get the scan. One way or another, we just need to have an idea of what's going on.

I can imagine @ARD1983, those few weeks of bleeding I found more stressful than the IVF. I've had a previous miscarriage show as just waiting for something to go wrong. I was so happy to be proved wrong.
