Washing newborn clothes

I know newborn clothes should be washed before wear, just wondering what's best to use and how far in advance this can be done? Not sure if the timing matters or if it's a case of as long as they've been washed that's fine?

I think I washed mine about 10 weeks before the birth. Some had been in the loft for two years and a few were new.

I also just used my usual washing powder etc.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it's something I can be getting on with now or if I needed to wait until nearer the time...

I loved washing the newborn clothes and hanging them up to dry outside. I think I did it about 4 weeks ahead of time. I use fairy non bio and they smelt lovely as they also had that fresh smell from being outside.

You could make the most of this great weather.

I've been doing washing all mine (mostly hand-me-downs) over the last couple of weeks, mainly because I had a bit of time off work and to make the most of the good weather so things would dry faster outside! Feels a bit early (I'm 30 weeks now) but it's one thing less to do, and I have bad PGP so everything is just going to be more difficult as time goes on. I just used Fairy non-bio.

I got all mine washed and put away at around 30 weeks, loved seeing it all hanging on the washing line and this week would definitely be a perfect time to get it done as the weather is supposed to be so nice. I washed it all in persil non bio(obviously you don't have to use Persil) which I think is recommended as baby's might has sensitive skin.

I think I washed mine at about 32 weeks, we use non bio anyway so I just washed them in our usual household laundry stuff so it all smelled like our adult clothes ...no idea if it made any difference but it felt like I was doing something constructive whilst time was taking aaages to pass!
