FTM - what do I need to buy?

Found out yesterday I'm having a boy so excited I can properly start getting stuff soon in preparation!

Trying to get organised and just wondering what I should be buying in prep?!

I know the obvious ones like pram/crib/etc but will leave those til nearer the time.

Clothes wise though what and how much of each thing would you suggest? Sizes? Etc! As you can tell I'm pretty clueless!

Toys? Do they need anything in those first few weeks/months?

Clothes:
They grow out so fast and you will get gifts too, so don’t go overboard! Buy a few newborn size bodysuits and sleep suits and a few up to one month size. Plus a hat. Get the sleepsuits with built in mitts so the baby can’t scratch them self. For the body suits, get long sleeved if due in the winter or shortsleeved if due spring/summer
Then up to 3 months you’ll need a bit more - sleepsuits and vests again but also you could get a couple of outfits or leggings and tops to wear in the day. If your baby is due in winter a few cardigans and a snowsuit will be needed too.

Toys:
It will be a few weeks before the even open their eyes enough for toys! For under 3 months we had the following:

  • a few fabric books in black and white (stimulating for a newborn
  • baby safe mirror
  • baby sensory kit
  • a few books - but these were all bought for us
  • a baby gym
  • bouncy chair

A lot of this was bought for us though and we ended up only using some clothes once!

Congratulations on your little boy 💙
FTM here too so won't tell you what to buy when I don't really know myself 🤣
Just FYI that I waited til I found out what I was having then had to wait for an appointment at the local baby shop....by the time I ordered the nursery furniture it was on 10-12 week lead time and prams can be on back order too, just thought worth mentioning as you said you were leaving them til later, but of course it will depend on what you choose.
Im only expecting my furniture 6 weeks before my due date which is a bit late for my preference especially since DP is hopeless at DIY and I normally put things together but it is what it is. Most things will have to stay in boxes etc until then which is a bit annoying and makes difficult to keep on top of what we've already bought x
