Hi,

I'm a FTM and currently around 10 weeks. Yesterday I stupidly helped mix a couple of shovels of cement and now I'm worried if being in close proximity will be harmful to baby. I know this is potentially a stupid question but I'm not sure either way so thought I'd be better to ask. Blush

I won't be participating again either way just out of wanting to avoid worry. Any experiences of any advice?

What harm does cement do?

BL89 · 02/08/2020 09:01

I've seen things about inhalation causing respiratory issues (I assume over prolonged periods of time?) and it can cause dermatitis on contact with skin due to the Ph level (yes I've spent hours on Google). I'm sure I'm being silly but my brain manages to overthink every little thing.

Did you inhale huge amounts of cement dust or get it on your body? You will be fine, step away from Google!

BertieBotts · 02/08/2020 09:04

Relax, it will be fine. None of those side effects are to do with the baby.

Think about how generations of women coped before the internet and general panic about everything. Baby is very well protected in there and when something is harmful the NHS has a warning against it. I would make yourself a rule to only go by NHS guidelines and avoid everything else because the internet can convince you that absolutely everything is dangerous.

Google is the devil and we are all guilty of googling at one time or 50 m, during our pregnancies and then posting in here straight after looking for reassurance before we go into a melt down (yes I am talking about myself! 🙈)!
Someone posted the other day about reading she shouldn't drink tap water! 🤪

You'll be fine OP 👍🏻

Thank you so much for all your comments. I feel a million times better and will definitely stay away from Google. I feel so embarrassed that I got so upset and worked up! @lockdownpregnancy I wish I'd posted before my melt down Blush

Thanks again everyone, I'm so grateful Flowers

Don't worry too much OP. I can guarantee you that it won't be your last melt down that's for sure! 🤪🤪🤪
