Cervix far back?

Hi, I’m 40+2, went for a sweep today.. it was horrible and painful and I had to tell her to stop basically. Anyway she said that my cervix was quite far back... what does that even mean really? She didn’t explain and I just wanted to get out of there to be honest! It doesn’t say much on my notes.

It’s a normal thing - part of how she would have assessed your cervix is whether it is posterior (far back), mid, or anterior, as well as how low baby’s head is and how soft it is, and how dilated. In order to be ready for labour your cervix generally needs to be more forward, start softening, thinning out, and dilating. But - that can happen very slowly over weeks, or quickly over hours. It’s just a starting point.
If posterior it can be hard to reach which makes the sweep pretty uncomfortable sometimes - sounds like that’s you.
Hope things go well for you, not long now anyway :)
