Hi all,

I have been searching the Internet for over a week for some advise about my situation and have found nothing.
I have been bleeding for nearly 6 weeks! I called the doctors and they told me to give it another week to see if it stopped on its own. It didn’t! I called them back and they were going to give me some medication to stop the bleeding but I had to take a pregnancy test before hand!
It came back POSITIVE!! I bought several more and all were positive. Called the doctors back who referred me to the EPU for blood tests and scan.
Had my first scan last Tuesday who advised that they couldn’t find anything so advised me I had had a miscarriage. My blood tests came back with relatively low hcg levels. Had to go back for another blood test 48 hours later - hcg had increased so asked me to come back again for another scan the following Tuesday.
On my second scan they found a small pea sized mass near my left ovary.
I have had 5 blood tests over the past 2 weeks and each time my hcg levels are increasing but no where near doubling for it to be a normal pregnancy. I’m ok with this. I had the Mirena because I don’t want any more children - I have 3. I have had the Mirena for over 2 years - scan confirmed that it was still in situ as it should be.

Every time I go to hospital I get told I am an enigma and they don’t really know what to do with me. I have mild period pain but nothing severe.

Has any one else been in this situation? How long did it go on for?
I have had enough now, I’m not sleeping through worry and just want it to be all over.
Please tell me everything is going to be ok and this isn’t going to go on for weeks?

Hey, sorry you’re going through this. What are your hcg levels now can I ask? And how much has it been rising?
Sounds like you may well have an ectopic pregnancy - slow rising hcg, and the mass by your ovary. An IUD is a risk factor for that. have they talked to you about ectopic?
There’s a possibility still it could be an early Normal pregnancy - I could comment more on that for you if you’d like to share your hcg numbers.
If they haven’t talked to you about ectopic in your situation then I find that pretty strange - next time you see them then ask specifically about that and whether they think it’s time to treat it (that can be a bit of a complex decision). Treatment options are wait and see, methotrexate medication, or a fairly straightforward keyhole surgery.
FYI if you do end up needing the surgery and you’re certain your family is complete then you could ask them to remove both your tubes while they’re there - obviously not the main concern right now but you’ll need better contraception!!
Good luck

@TenThousandSpoons0
Hey thanks for coming back to me.
On my first blood test they were 243 and on my last blood test they were 349. So they are very low and only marginally increasing each test. I know that it is a non viable pregnancy, it’s the waiting that I’m really struggling with.
The consultants haven’t been able to confirm that the mass in my left tube is the egg so are still classing it as pregnancy of unknown location.
I know that they are hoping that it resolves itself but I’m tired of waiting and not knowing what’s going to happen next. We are following the wait and see at the moment but how long does the wait and see go on for? How long will they continue to let the hcg go up before anything can be done?
My pregnancies with my 3 children were all complication free and I have had the Mirena for 2 years since my youngest was born.
The past 2 weeks have been such a rollercoaster, pregnancy didn’t even cross my mind I figured I may have a polp on my ovary or something along those lines.

It’s tricky - a little bit of a how long is a piece of string kind of question... The waiting is very hard and it would be reasonable to ask them for more definitive management - or at least a timeframe for that within another week or so if hcg still rising.
