Smart baby monitors?

Looking for recommendations for a good baby monitor that we are able to access remotely? Eg/ when DH is working away from home for a few weeks at a time we would like him to be able to have access to an app or something where he can also see baby.

I’ve seen a few that advertise as being smart but you can only actually use the app if you’re connected to the same WiFi router as the monitor.

Oh I’m interested to hear replies on this :)

@Rainbowafterthestorm hoping someone will be able to give some recommendations 🤞🏼 Partner works away for weeks at a time in various parts of the world so sometimes him finishing work etc can be the middle of the night for us. Would just be nice for him to be able to have a quick look on the monitor whenever he wants. I’ve read a few things online questioning their security though which does make me a bit wary so hoping for a good recommendation 😊

My partner does too...we were hoping for the same thing. We have a blink camera so he’ll be able to talk to the little one downstairs but a baby monitor would be fab.

We ordered the Kodak Cherish C525 recently. It is a WiFi smart monitor and comes with a screen but you can also have an app on your phone or tablet. Only tried it out so far as baby is due in 8 weeks but it seems great do far 😃

We have the kodak C525. In theory it's fantastic. Great screen for in the house, an app that you can use wherever etc. In reality we have had nothing but issues. They are constantly sending out software updates and after some of these we have had major issues with the sound. On two occasions now we have been unable to get sound for long periods of time. The first time the sound did not appear to be recognised at all. Customer services were pretty responsive and emailed nearly every day trying to sort it. But it took 2 weeks for them to manually push a fix which resolved the issue. The second time the sound went on and off and it appeared to be due to a loose connection as it would go on and off depending on what position the parent unit was in. Again they resolved this and sent a new one but only after us sending videos and numerous emails about it. So I spent weeks terrified that we wouldn't hear the baby if he woke up in the night as we can't hear well from our room. All issues now appear to be sorted but I just don't fully trust it now. Only gone Into so much detail as we picked it for exactly the reasons you're looking for so it's likely to come up.

I'm currently coveting the Bluebell Smart. It's ever so expensive though and I'm not sure if its just gimmicky... Looks like a great bit of kit though.

I got a Victure Camera from Amazon for £22. Its got a great picture even with night vision. You use an app on your phone which you can share on multiple devices. My OH has it on his phone and he can login.

I just had the BT Smart Baby Monitor delivered yesterday, and so far it's good. You have to connect the camera to the WiFi, but I don't think the phone has to be as the stream is then shown via the Internet. The picture is a lot better than I thought it would be. Parent unit is a remote connection.

I bought the 5 inch version from eBay refurbished as new for £90. I'm pretty sure it is new and just a customer return as it is pristine and still had the plastic on it. Mine was from something like Green Box Shop but I bought the last one. They might still have the slightly cheaper used versions on sale or might bring them back.

I think with these things you have to be prepared that the camera can be hacked into but then also the camera on your phone can be as can iPads etc. Realistically it’s unlikely to happen unless you’re famous or something can be gained from it by the people hacking in.

@Brunilde Thank you! That’s great to know! That is one of the options that popped up so I’ll definitely look for something else!

@Alarae I’ve also looked at the BT one. I just couldn’t figure out if you could access it remotely or just use your phone as another screen if you were connected to the same network!

We have the iBaby M7. Only downside is it doesn't come with a screen. We have an old iPhone 8 we use as the monitor though so it doesn't make a huge difference. We bought it as husband used to work away 3 days a week but by the time we actually needed it COVID had hit and dh will be working from home permanently now!

RWK29 · 31/07/2020 02:52

Thanks @Hannah9176. Typical that that would happen after you buy it 🙈😂 not one that I’ve seen much about but sounds interesting so I’ll look into it 😊 we had automatically said no to anything without a parent unit, such as the Nanit but I think lots of the more modern ones are the same now!
