How many months with OPKs?

Hi lovely pregnant ladies,

I'm now going into my 5th month ttc using OPKs and still no sign of a BFP. I'm 32, DH 31. Both healthy weight, don't smoke, rarely drink. Reasonable exercise/diets. My cycle is like clockwork and no obvious issues.

I know they say it can take a year for healthy couples to conceive but I assume that's with random sex, whereas I know we have hit the correct timings for the past 4 months. So I would love to hear from any of you who had to try for several months with OPKs just to reassure me. It's too early to go to the doctors but I just feel like something is wrong 😔

I'd maybe try temping in conjunction with OPKs. Tbh I don't think I ever had a truly positive result with just OPKs and I think by the time it's dark then it's almost too late whereas I knew when I was ovulating due to the changes in CM. As I was temping I had also guessed that I was pregnant before I took the positive test - I waited until what should have been day one of my period. We got pregnant month 5 or 6, having been on the pill for 12/13 years before that although my cycles didn't really come back until about month 4. Our child is now almost 18 months and we've decided to use condoms so I don't need to go back onto the pill before we decide if we are trying for a second.

Hi
It took us around 4 months using OPKs, keep going, you'll get there! I started to get despondent but now I'm 6 weeks pregnant so I promise they do work 😁

Hi,

I used OPKs for 5 months before I fell pregnant. Months 4 and 5 I did the sperm meets egg plan (if you google it, it advises you which days of your cycle are the best to do the deed!) and also used pre-seed. I was so impatient I just wanted to cover all bases early on! Hope it works for you too 😊

Honestly I used these for probably 7 months, then got sick to death of the scheduling and checking. It was also becoming really draining and upsetting me not getting pregnant every month when I'm doing everything by the book. Anyway, I sacked them off, tried to forget about it for a while and then got my BFP as soon as I stopped using them. Turns out taking the pressure out the situation did a world of wonders. Now 27 weeks pregnant :)

@DoctorBambino a year to conceive is for a fertile couple who are dtd regularly throughout a woman's cycle, month on month. I'd use opks alongside temping personally.

I have been pregnant twice (first ended in a mmc) and both times it took me 8 months to conceive and I used opks every one of the 16 cycles. You will get there! I'm 33 weeks today.

It's just down to luck I'm afraid! If a perfectly fertile couple manage to dtd at the right time in a given cycle then there is only a 20% chance of conceiving. Apparently, 50% of fertilised eggs don't even implant. It's really quite a miracle!

Thank you so much everyone, thats very reassuring. I know I'm being impatient! Now to decide whether to up my game with BBT and SMEP or to sack off the opks and go with the flow!

Congratulations to you all and thanks again xx
