getting big very early - help!

I am only just six weeks pregnant, and I am naturally a small, slim build - size 8-10. When I had DD I honestly did not look pregnant until I was six months gone, and even just before she was born (3 weeks early)I was very small and could wear my normal clothes (She was tiny - 5lbs - 3oz).

This time, however, I already look pregnant, my stomach is about the same size as it was when I was about 4 months - the few people who know about me being pregnant are saying they can really tell there is a bump!

I know that generally, you do show earlier second time round, but I am a bit worried about the difference between the two pregnancies. Can being big early be an indicator of anything?

I am sure my dates are right - and When I first did the pregnancy test it was a faint positive, indicating I was only just pregnant - now much stronger.

Help!

Don't worry Megi, it sounds pretty normal to me. I showed very early with my second, although quite late with my third, strangely. According to my midwife it can depend on how the baby is lying in the pelvis (as I remember). With my third, he was quite well tucked until 14 weeks when, literally, overnight he tipped over and I had this huge bump. Very strange. But the reverse with number 2, was very obviously pg by 8 weeks. Don't worry, but do speak to your midwife to set your mind at rest. I'm sure there'll be plenty of advice here too! Good luck!

megi, i am exactly the same.
8-10 (in a 6 after dd, but when pregnant with her didn't show till 5-6 months.
I am 5 months now and ENORMOUS! Have been from the word go, guess it's true about showing the second time round!

God I'm huge. Was huge in July (just seen holiday pix) and not due until early Feb. It doesn't mean anything.

second time round I showed sooner and am much bigger than with my dd HOWEVER - dd was just 6lbs at term and it looks like this babe will be about 8lb 10oz... probably not the same in your case - dd had a heart defect which contributed to her being a small babe.....

I have been told by GP etc as the body has done this ablready - skin is not at tight as it was first time around...and so generally women show much earlier.

My aunt looked like she was at term when she was only 4months with her third and the babe was around the 7lb mark....

hope that helps.

Don't worry about it Megi, I'm 19 weeks with my first (very exciting!) and have had a hard tummy since 10 weeks. I was worried about it too and lovely midwife said was absilutely normal. Apparently some people show early and then plateau later on in the pregnancy whereas others don't show until 6 months or so - wird hey!? I guess its different for all of us.

Good luck anyway

megi - I'm also quite tiny - 5'4 and slim and first time round didn't show until 5-6 months. Even though everyone told me 2nd time round you pop out earlier it was a real shock to me! I'm now 4.5 months, and I feel like I'm the size I was at 6.5 months last time round. But the midwife got her tape measure out a few weeks ago and assured me my bump is completely average!

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Also depends on where your bump is, IYKWIM. With my second pregnancy I was absolutely enormous, apparently. People kept telling me how enormous I was. Lorry drivers leaned out of their lorries to comment on my enormousness (admittedly in the last couple of weeks). In fact I'd only put on a stone, but it was all one enormous belly-worth...

...oh, and the baby was under seven pounds, in any case.

i am the same - 5 months preg and look like i did at 7 months the first time round!

Hi - I also popped out straight away with my second baby. Apparently the muscles there have already been stretched so you do show much quicker the second time round. My second baby was much bigger (8lb10oz) than my first (6lb5oz) but I didn't start measuring up as 'large' until much later into my pregnancy despite feeling very large at the start.
To be reassured, I don't think it infers anything about the baby's size at this stage!
