Hi all,

I wondered if anyone could help me with what to expect at my first appointment? I’m seeing someone because of an overactive thyroid.

Thank you

I’ve just had mine as recently been diagnosed with mild hyperthyroidism bought on by pregnancy. Gave a sample of urine (I think they always take urine whenever you go in?) & a nurse took my blood pressure before I saw the consultant & she outlined how my thyroid condition could affect pregnancy & treatment (none in my case). I am having my bloods checked every 4 x weeks to monitor my thyroid levels, until after 26 weeks I think they said.

Mine was just a chat with a registrar to go over my medical information and discuss what that meant for my pregnancy and birth.
I did see the consultant briefly for an introduction but the majority was with the registrar.
They make a decision on whether you will continue to be consultant led throughout the pregnancy or if they can refer you back to the midwives.
In my case, it wasnt a very 'exciting' appointment but it was useful

oh, and yes BP and urine - these should be checked at every f2f appt with consultant or midwife.
