Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I found out my folic acid was low for other heath reasons...then yesterday I found out I am pregnant with our first baby (2-3 weeks according to clear blue).

I have read up on how low folic acid can affect baby...does anyone on here have any past experience or info? My mind is in overdrive with worry.

Thanks so much xx

I would just start taking a folic acid pill now well as soon as you can, and eat as much food as possible that’s high in folic acid... like kiwis, broccoli, peas.

Do you eat cereal? Most of those are fortified with folic acid.

I have picked up some from boots today until my prescription is ready. I do eat all of those including cereal but appears it's not helping 😫
Trying not to over think! Thanks for the advice xx

I didnt start taking folic acid until I was about 8 weeks pregnant....some women don't even realise they're pregnant till they're full term and never take it so I wouldn't stress about it. Just start as soon as you can.

You need folic acid 5mg prescribed and continue taking a pregnancy multivitamin alongside it x

Thank you both, I am going to call my GP tomorrow to inform them of the pregnancy and hopefully they can sort it all for me! Thank you xx

Also if clear blue says 2-3 weeks then your about 4-5 weeks pregnant 🤰🏼 take folic acid tablets and should be fine :)
