Mat B1 Form Question

Hey guys,

I'm 19 + 2 and due to have my 20 week scan a week tomorrow.

I've been doing some reading about the Mat B1 Form and was wondering when I get that from my midwife.

I have two telephone appointments booked one 4 weeks after the scan and one 6 weeks after the scan. I've read that it needs to be given to your employer before 15 weeks of your due date, so 25 weeks.

If I'm only having phone consultations, do I phone after my scan to get a form?

I know it may be a silly question, but need to have my mind put at ease.

Second pregnancy here and I'm 26 weeks. I phoned my midwife and she left the phone at gp reception for me. It's only a squiggle on a form for payroll /hr. No need to wait for an appointment x

Your employer doesn't need it at 25 weeks but you do need to inform them of your pregnancy and when you want to start leave by that point. Just get it to them as soon as you can - it is issued any time after 20 weeks

I got mine at my 25 week appointment 👍🏻

MarshmallowsOnToast · 26/07/2020 17:12

I got mine whilst at the hospital for my 20 week scan. Also got the whooping cough vaccination that day too.

I didn't request it, the nurse doing the jab asked if I'd been given the form yet & filled it out for me but perhaps you could ask?

hamandcheesesandwichplease · 26/07/2020 17:19

You'll get it when you have an appointment around 23-25 weeks

BeHappyAndSmile · 26/07/2020 17:23

I phoned about mine at 26 weeks and it was posted out to me the following week. I think you usually get it at the 25 week app but that was cancelled due to covid changes.

sel2223 · 26/07/2020 17:24

I was told you can't get it before 24 weeks.

Normally, my trust would give it at the 25 week appointment but I got it at 28 weeks due to covid.

hamandcheesesandwichplease · 26/07/2020 17:30

@sel2223 I just got mine last week when I was 22 weeks

peachypetite · 26/07/2020 17:34

Mine will be 28 weeks due to Covid but HR already know. Don’t stress.

Prettylittlelady · 26/07/2020 17:38

I had to write a formal letter to my employer telling them the due date - it didn’t matter that I didn’t have the form yet - I got given it at mr 24 week midwife appointment.

Bluejayway91 · 26/07/2020 18:00

Thanks for all your replies.

Makes me feel much better! My employer already knows the due date and the date I'm aiming to start maternity leave.

My trust is offering whooping cough vaccinations at the 20 weeks, so maybe I can get the form too.

If not, I'll contact my midwife a bit later.

I'm not sure if I'm having a face-to-face for my 24/25 appointment, as the hospital has already booked a telephone consultation and then I have another telephone consultation with my midwife at about 26/27 weeks.

I'm in Leicester, so I think they're trying to reduce as much face-to-face as possible.

@hamandcheesesandwichplease it might be a difference between trusts or maybe die to covid? I don't know, but my area won't before 24 weeks.
I know Scotland give it earlier too (not sure where you're from?)

Not to be too morbid but it's something to do with when it becomes viable (before 24 weeks is a miscarriage whereas after 24 weeks is a stillbirth and you are entitled to a lot of the same rights including maternity leave/pay)

dementedpixie · 26/07/2020 20:37

it can be given out any time after 20 weeks. That's what is stated on the .gov website

sel2223 · 26/07/2020 20:41

@dementedpixie my midwife must be telling me fibs then.
Regardless, my trust wouldn't give me it till after 24 weeks so got it at 28 week appointment and that was absolutely fine.

Mc3209 · 26/07/2020 23:29

I got mine sent in the post when I requested it from my midwife after 20 weeks.

Hatepickinganame · 27/07/2020 05:05

I got mine at 19 weeks when i had my scan, it actually states on the form 'do not issue before 20 weeks from the week the baby is due' or something like that meaning it can be issued as early as 19 weeks. I didnt ask as i didnt think i could get it that early, i thought it was 25 weeks or over. Handed into my employer with all my dates already, im now 20 + 3 and far too excited to finish work already 😂

sallywinter · 27/07/2020 10:01

I had to phone my midwife to get one but it was sent really promptly. I think I was about 23 weeks and had just cottoned on to needing one!

Superscientist · 27/07/2020 10:21

I got it after my 28 week appointment. I forgot to ask at the appointment and phoned her that afternoon. My gp surgery popped it in the post. I contacted work at 25 weeks to give them my mat leave start data and let them know that I didn't yet have a copy of my mat1B form but would get it to them as soon as I did and asked if they were OK with that
