My bump has shrunk

Up until 36 weeks my bump was measuring high on the chart, at my 36 week appointment I had a different midwife as mine was on annual leave, when she measured my bump it had actually got smaller. Yesterday I saw my usual midwife for my 38 week appointment and my bump is the same size as the 36 week measurements, my midwife is annoyed that the other midwife didn’t refer me for a growth scan, I’m now waiting for an appointment for a scan but just wondering if anyone else has experienced their bump decreasing in size ? It can happen when the baby engages and drops further down, so will hopefully be nothing to worry about but good you're going to get checked

I’ve had this happen to me during my last 2 appointments. Bump was measuring at 28 weeks when I was 30 weeks so midwife sent me in for just a mini scan to check and they were happy baby measured fine.

32 week appointment bump was measuring at 28 weeks so had a full growth scan and baby was measuring 32 weeks 🤷‍♀️

Hope that helps!

Mine never shrunk but my second baby bump never went above 32cm with the tape measure, I was sent for scans and had extra checks but it was just because my baby had settled head down and back to back so all his body was in my spine after 15 years it has never recovered he was born 10 days over due and 7lb 7oz!

Mine looked like it shrunk but that was due to a different midwife measuring it. I can see that yours was different when a different midwife measured too. The midwives can measure the bump from (and to) different points and so have varying results. Definitely go for the growth scan as I had gestational diabetes following my growth scan.

I had the same too but it was just a measuring and baby getting lower thing. Good luck!

At 32 weeks I was measuring correctly. However because of Christmas holidays, my next appointment wasn’t until I was 37 weeks. At that point they found I was still measuring at 32. I wasn’t given a growth scan until 5 days later when they found baby had stopped growing and I had very little amniotic fluid. I was induced that evening and she was born the next day at 5 and a half pounds. She was fine and healthy but needed a little extra attention.
I am sure you’re absolutely fine, you are far in enough that if you do need an induction baby will be fine, and if you’re feeling movements then i wouldn’t panic, but always always worth getting these things checked.
Let us know how can goes!

Can depend on baby’s position.
I measured small at last midwife appointment at almost 31 weeks and had a growth scan today (32 weeks) and all is well. My baby was transverse when I got measured by midwife which can affect fundal height x

I find different midwives measure slightly differently so i wouldn't worry unduly.

I had a growth scan and midwife appt within 2 days of each other this week. 1 measured baby around the 30th centile, the other around the 80th. I take it all with a pinch of salt tbh
