Penicillin during pregnancy

I've had horrendous tonsillitis for over 2 weeks now and it's got to the point where I'm in so much pain I need to do something as normal amount of salt water gargling is going to help. Dr has prescribed penicillin and said it's completely safe during pregnancy but has anyone taken it while pregnant or knows of any side effects? I'm in first trimester and v.newly pregnant. Thank you

Penicillin is fine...... I'm allergic to it unfortunately and have had several infections during pregnancy (infected tooth, UTI, grumbling appendix) and any issues have always arisen because I can't take penicillin.
It's by far the safest one for use during pregnancy.

That's such a huge relief thank you so much for taking the time to respond @sel2223
So sorry to hear about that! My sister is also allergic to penicillin and it's always been a PITA.
