Oyster 3 questions

I think I'm going for the Oyster 3 travel system with the mirror finish frame...I've heard that it can scratch easily though? Just wondering if anyone has one and how much of a problem it really is? Don't want it to look really scruffy!

Also really torn on which car seat to go for, the Oyster 3 matching one or something different? Any recommendations appreciated! Xx

Anyone?? Shameless bump...🙈

I have the oyster 3 and had the joie I level with it and it was an excellent combo! Can’t comment on the mirror chassis as I got the black chassis with the Pepper fabric, it’s slightly scratched but you can’t really notice. I think it’s impossible to get a pram that doesn’t show the wear and tear of getting it out the car, collapsing it, bumping it into things but as far as the pram goes, I absolutely love it!

Stargazer87 · 22/07/2020 16:30

@thetangleteaser Great to hear that you love the pram, it's not the one I expected us to go for as before we tested them out I had very different favourites...I'll have to check out that car seat!

I thought I wanted an ‘egg’ but really didn’t like it, when it came to actually pushing and folding it, I like that you didn’t need the carry cot part of the oyster as you can lie it flat from birth so that swayed me more, it was my partner that actually really liked the oyster and I’m so glad we chose it! The joie car seats are brilliant, I just had to buy the adapters to attach the car seat to the pram but they were only about £15 on Amazon xx

Stargazer87 · 22/07/2020 16:38

I thought I wanted a Bugaboo Fox but it seemed so big and clunky compared to the Oyster, I was really surprised!

I’ve got the oyster 3 but haven’t used it yet as my little one isn’t due to arrive for a few weeks! I wouldn’t go for the Oyster 3 car seat, it has a warning against it on which.com. (Although on rereading it I think it’s do with the base www.which.co.uk/news/2019/04/safety-alert-babystyle-oyster-carapace-baby-car-seat-with-duofix-i-size-base-named-which-dont-buy/ I nearly bought the bundle and then stumbled across this when I was searching for reviews. You can get a bundle on trendy baby.com and select a different car seat though!

Stargazer87 · 22/07/2020 16:51

@Zen87 I saw that too and was concerned about it but have since found out it's been redesigned and relaunched since the issues were reported.

@Stargazer87 oh that’s good, I was trying to find that out at the time (as I desperately wanted it to all match 😂) but couldn’t see anything online!

Stargazer87 · 22/07/2020 17:14

@Zen87 I'm the same, I want it all to match although still slightly dubious of the new model car seat...🙄

I've got it but with the black chassis and love it.
I have the maxi cosi pebble plus which goes on with adaptors and is fab for us

Stargazer87 · 22/07/2020 22:38

Great to hear some positive reviews on it, I feel like it's such an important thing to make the right decision on!

We have the oyster 3 with a cybex cloud z. Baby not here yet though. We have the mirrored finish with the Regatta blue. Ultimately we have bought it to use and accept that it may scratch.

We originally thought we would buy an Egg but think this is a much better system. Unpacked it yesterday and still delighted (bought in April)

MrsNA · 22/07/2020 23:05

I’m also looking into getting an oyster 3 and had the same questions as @Stargazer87. Glad to see the positive comments for the stroller.

MrsNA · 22/07/2020 23:16

Hi Do you think this would be compatible with the oyster 3?

@MrsNA From what I've heard I think it would...

I had an oyster 2 with ds and absolutely hated it. Haven't tried the oyster 3 but to give you a different perspective, I found it flimsey and wasn't good on anything other than tarmac, and even then it bounced a lot. I got rind of it when ds was 5 months old in favour of an umbrella fold pushchair (in fairness though this was for a holiday and we just stuck with it as it was summer and ds loved it). For dc2 I'll be looking at something sturdier. I also found I needed height adaptors for the carry cot section as it felt like ds was practically on the floor.

Anaesthetist83 · 23/07/2020 08:09

The oyster 3 is a complete overhaul of the oyster 2. There is absolutely no comparison. It is a completely different system. The person who showed us says she used to be embarrassed to demonstrate the oyster 2 but the company really listened to all the feedback and the oyster 3 is vastly different. The same company make the Egg, and this still has some issues as hasn’t been updated yet.

Stargazer87 · 23/07/2020 10:02

That's really interesting that it's made by the same company who make the Egg. Makes sense though as there's definitely some similarities in the design. I was interested in the egg before trying it out but the Oyster won hands down which is amazing considering the price difference!

We have the Oyster 3 but chose the darker frame instead of mirror. I think all frames will scratch as you use it and fold it up and down etc, perhaps it will show more on the mirror finish but I don't know. I'm really happy with my Oyster 3, we used it with the Cybex Cloud Z which was brilliant as we could fold it flat when on the pushchair if baby was asleep from the car journey, and also mean they can stay in it longer than the 2 hours recommended for car seats. It also swivels on the base in the car.

Stargazer87 · 23/07/2020 10:49

Random question but how do you find the handles on the dark frame? I like the dark frame but when I tried it out the handle bar felt really weird and dry...I didn't like the feel of it at all. The mirror frame has leather handles so doesn't have the same problem. Not sure if it's just the one I tried? Maybe it was coated in something but just felt horrible to touch!

To be honest I've never really thought about it but I suppose it is quite a dry feel! Obviously didn't register with me at all, but if it didn't feel nice to you I'd go for the leather seeing as it's the thing you're holding the whole time!
Loorz893 · 22/08/2020 18:18

Hi, we went to look at the Oyster 3 today and loved it. Only reservation is the car seat which is included in the best price bundles. Anyone who is using a different one - did you buy the pushchair/car seat separately?

Also, did you buy from an independent shop or a big retailer like John Lewis? Wary of the Covid related waiting times for smaller shops!

Thanks so much!

Anaesthetist83 · 24/08/2020 08:42

Hi, we ordered an oyster 3 and cybex cloud z from Little Angels, an independent shop in Nottingham in April. They did a deal price wise which included the cybex cloud z plus for the same price as the cloud z (just upgraded material). The pram was delivered 2 days later but the car seat “on order”. I got a bit twitchy by the start of July when it hadn’t arrived (baby due August)..... all manufacturers delays, so ended up with a refund and purchasing from Kiddies Kingdom who had the item in stock.

So ideally, I would have liked to have supported an independent shop, but there are definitely delays on deliveries at the moment, so it may be a case of who has an item in stock if you are fixed on what you want.

Hello to everyone,
Thank you all for the comments, which are really helful.
I would like to ask you, if you know if Oyster 3 is compatible with the car seat Cybex Aton M i-size or only the listed car seats?

Hi all. Pretty much decided on this too, with a non Oyster car seat. Anyone else got any reviews? Did you guys go for the carry cot and foot muff?
