Curry while breastfeeding?

About to order some ready meals to keep us going when the baby arrives. I'm a curry fan (nothing crazy hot, just daals, spinach paneer etc) but I've heard that this can put babies off milk or give them gas etc... Is this a common thing? Should I plan to avoid curry? Is there anything else that I should avoid due to the effect on milk flavour? Confused

Thanks!

I’ve heard that but it never did with mine and there wasn’t any food that effected my baby.
I’d recommend ordering things you can eat with one hand though while feeding (curry with a spoon works well) and one handed snacks

The whole of India (and many other Asian countries) eat curry whilst breastfeeding. It's fine.

No way to predict, it depends on your kid. However, if you've been eating it in pregnancy it'll have flavoured your amniotic fluid so the baby will be used to it anyway.

This is an d wives tale

CoffeePleb · 22/07/2020 10:58

That's exactly what I was thinking @Pinktruffle!

Ok, good to know, I won't worry about it then.

Thanks for the tips @user1493413286

Curry never affected my DD when I was breastfeeding.

Might be coincidence but she had the stinkiest wind the days after I had cabbage or mushy peas though 😂

I’m Pakistani and we all survived of nothing else whilst being breastfed as babies. If it’s something you’ve been eating during pregnancy then baby already should be familiar with it also.

OneKeyAtATime · 22/07/2020 14:33

It never affected mine. She s a good eater now. No idea if it s linked or not though!

The only thing that ever seemed to give DS trouble was the time his father had an attack of the chefs and made French Onion Soup. Oh good lord we paid for that for DAYS.

If you’ve eaten it during pregnancy then your baby will already be familiar with some of the strong flavours from your amniotic fluid.
