Low lying placenta 31 weeks

Hi there, I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week scan. I just had my 31 week scan today and although it has moved up a bit, it is still too low and they've booked me in for a scan in 5 weeks time. The sonographer reckoned I'd still be fine for a vaginal delivery, the consultant I saw after was less upbeat and kept talking of fingers crossed it moves and here's hoping. Has anyone else had a slightly low lying placenta that was fine at a later scan, and well out the way?

@Nsmum14 I had a placenta previa at 20w and had my 32w scan and was told it had moved 1mm.. our hospital want it to be 3mm away from Cervix opening had a scan at 35w was still 1.5mm away have my 36w scan this friday to make a descion. Did they say how far away from the cervix opening it was?

@KLM19 no they did not say, the sonographer was vague and the doctor I saw subsequently said he'd not made notes of how low it was exactly. My midwife is going to text me later with blood test results, I will ask her on the off chance that she knows. All the best of luck this Friday, I so hope it gets tugged further out of the way and you can stop worrying about this, and go ahead to give birth how you please.

Please ask about vasa previa at your scan. Mine was missed at 7 examinations by 4 different consultants who were focusing on the low lying placenta and missed the vessels. (But then found in time and the baby survived.)

@GirlCalledJames omg how did they find out?!

KLM19 · 21/07/2020 14:31

@Nsmum14 Thank you I'm not to fussed as long as baby boy is okay Star

The doctor noticed it on the 8th examination, luckily. None of the doctors before then had seen it firsthand in their careers, possibly why it gets missed so much.

@GirlCalledJames
Can I ask what’s vasa previa and can it be seen clearly during ultrasound.
I had low lying cervix at 20 wk scan and going this week (32weeks) to see if it’s moved
Thanks x
