Radiating pain lower back/abdomen and hips

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can give some advice as I’m starting to feel quite worried.

I’m 25 weeks and I’m suffering with an ache/pain that is radiating from my lower tummy/pelvic area through my lower back to hips/top of thighs. It comes and goes in intensity but is enough to stop me sleeping tonight and has had me in tears a couple of times this evening. It started with stitch like pain at top of bump and has developed from there.

I’ve had pelvic pain at night/when sleeping for a good few weeks now. When the pain is in my pelvis it feels a bit like the ache of period pain but not the crampy contraction feeling you get with period pain if that makes sense.

Anyone had similar or have any advice?

Hey :) I'm 27 weeks and had similar all day yesterday. I woke up with period like cramps in my lower tummy and had lower back pain both on my left side, but I don't have the upper thigh pain. It persisted all day and I called my midwife in the evening and she said it didn't sound normal so she wants me to go and see her today to check a urine sample and to listen to the baby's heartbeat so I'd suggest you talk to your midwife too :) I hope you feel better soon!

I've had similar and been told it's braxton hicks which are normally painless but not always.
I would still run it by the midwife but mine said not to worry unless they became more frequent (as in 4 per hour)

the pelvic pain could be SPD?

I had similar pain during my pregnancy but I could usually function and sleep through it without painkillers. I was constantly worried though like I was going to start my period and lose the baby. Apparently it was just everything inside expanding and shifting for my growing baby.

If it’s causing you so much pain that you’re in tears and painkillers don’t help then I would get it checked out though. I was calling my midwife all the time and although she didn’t seem to mind, even if she did it wouldn’t have mattered - I was a first time mum and I needed to know everything was ok.

I have had this recently too. Interested to know what it was as caused me a lot of pain

I had a pain in my tummy and they called me into hospital to have a look and I had a swab done that showed I had signs of premature labour. Had to stay in hospital 2 nights but fortunately nothing happened! Definitely get checked out!

Just a quick update after what I posted earlier - I just got back from seeing the midwife and everything was fine. I was kept awake last night from the pain and started feeling sick but this morning it felt a lot better.

Midwife checked a urine sample and checked babies heartbeat and both were fine so she thinks the pain was just from the baby growing and stretching inside :) Hope you feel better today too!

Thanks for all of the replies ladies. My community midwife has asked me to drop a urine sample and self refer to physio. I also called the delivery suite who asked me to take some paracetamol and call them back in a couple of hours and let them know how im getting on as pain today isn’t as bad as last night- and now I have my mum and aunty on the phone to me constantly telling me to just turn up at delivery suite and demand to be seen! I don’t know whether I’m coming or going Sad

I’ve been to triage today with very similar. Been diagnosed with Irritable Uterus and told to manage it with rest and paracetamol. If it gets worse I’m to go back in.

Did you get looked at?

I ended up going into the antenatal assessment unit earlier and was sent home after having cervix checked and the early labour swab came back clear. I was so stressed and happy to be let go I didn’t even ask what it could have been so I’m none the wiser!!
