Knee pain at 35 weeks

I’m not sure if it’s pregnancy related or not, but over the last 2 weeks I’ve had awful knee pain and it’s now got to the point where I can’t put too much pressure on it when I stand, I can’t squat down, it hurts to even sit on the toilet. I always can’t extend my leg or bend my knee so I have to lie in bed with my leg slightly bent. Is this anything to do with pregnancy? I don’t want to have a painful knee to contend with during labour!

When you are pregnant your body produces hormones which make your ligaments more relaxed (so your pelvis can stretch) and you will also be carrying more weight. However it sounds like you have hurt your knee somehow and it's more likely that being pregnant is making it harder for it to heal. If it's stopping you do day to day things I would contact your GP.

I had a telephone appointment with my GP yesterday as I've been suffering with a painful knee the past few weeks (although not stopping me doing day to day activities). I too am now 35 weeks pregnant and was advised to take paracetamol it painful and rest up as much as possible. Apparently there isn't much they can do at this stage of pregnancy as physio wouldn't touch us and can't really have any other treatments 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I was a little disheartened to say the least!!!

Yes, have a chat with your midwife and/or GP. Chances are they won't be able to help you in any way but advise you to rest and take it easy, but talking about it with a professional might feel reassuring.

Is the pain constant or does it come and go? I'm too 35 weeks, but my knee pain is, hmm, hard to describe. It happens randomly and feels like my knee or both knees are bruised and swollen... They're neither! It goes away after a while. It's been going on for a few weeks now. My bump is huge and I gained a lot of weight, but my GP thinks it might even be related to some form of arthritis (unfortunately it runs in the family) so that will be something to check in a few months.
