Stitch like pain down one side?

I am 39+2 pregnant and had a lie down earlier lying on my right side. When I awoke I had what felt like a really painful stitch down my left side and my bump was rock hard. The pain lasted half an hour-felt like I was going to split! Has anyone else experienced this?
It's subsided quite a lot now but I can still feel it. No pain on the other side at all. Am loth to call MW and have to go into hospital.

Rock hard bump sounds like braxton hicks.

Pain is really bad again but only left side. Very strange. I can hardly walk.

I think its just BH's, I am due tomorrow and have been experiencing painful stitch on one side of my bump for a few days now, sooner this lo is out the better If you are in that much pain though, it wouldn't hurt to call the mw, that is after all what they are there for

The stitchy pain is probably round ligament pain, these are the ligaments that hold the uterus in place and as it grows the ligament gets stretched and it hurts - a lot like stitch. Perfectly normal. Although as usual if you're worried or if there is any other pain or fever or anything like that - ask your midwife. The "rock hard bump" bit is almost certainly braxton hicks - practice contractions. These can get worse if you are tired or not drinking enough water.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I had a bath and the pains seemed to subside. Probably practice runs. Threw me into a bit of a panic!!
Thanks again.

I had a similar stitch-like pain in my right side when I was lying on my right side in bed this morning (I'm 36+5 weeks). It lasted about 5 minutes then faded away. It hasn't re-occurred since.
Actually, thinking about it, I think it might have been wind
