Successful sweep stories

Anyone had a sweep and it worked and if so how long after having the sweep did your labour/contractions start? I'm currently 39+1 and had a sweep yesterday around 7pm. Had a few tightenings/BH that night which stopped few hours after. Today I've had a couple BH, was sick and also lost my mucus plug but other then that nothing else has happened😩. I was told you have between 24-48 hours if the sweep was successful. I know it's only been 24 hours but I'm really starting to loose hope and starting think it's just not worked. I was 2cm dilated and this is my second baby. Anyone have any tips to try and get things moving. I've tried clary sage oil birthing ball drinking raspberry leaf tea but nothing I know baby will come when she's ready but I just want here her now 😩

Hi. I had a sweep with DC2 at a out lunch time. I lost my mucus plug the following morning and by midmorning thought I was be becoming incontinent as my waters began to leek slowly. It took till 6pm for them to full on go. It was then another 6/7 hours before contractions started.
So, to answer your question roughly 36 hours from sweep to contracting.
Good luck op! X

I had a sweep at 38+6 as had reduced movement and on examination I was already 2cm dilated (no either signs and second baby). Sweep 5pm, gave birth the next evening!

I had a sweep at 2pm ish and was 2-3cm, I had a feeling I was in early labour and I was very overdue. Had quite a lot of blood stained mucus and pain which gradually worsened, went in to hospital around midnight and was in established labour, tbh I think my body was doing it anyway but the sweep helped it along.

Hello everyone Thankyou for taking the time to respond. That all sounds hopeful, maybe I'm being a little impatient then and should give it some more time. I mean she's got to come out at some point but I feel like she's been in there forever. This might sound like a silly question but is your mucus plug/"bloody show" the same thing. Mine hasn't had any blood in it but just wondered if there was a difference between the two, and if loosing my mucus plug is a sign that something is atleast happening there feel like I'm clutching at straws 😂

If it was deffo the mucous plug then that’s a sure thing it’s a good sign.
FWIW I went into labour after my second sweep. But it was not within 24 hours but the second day after... be as active as you can- anything that brings on BHs etc. Sex if you can!! Get a good orgasm and some breast and nipple play!!

With my first I had my sweep at 1pm, starting contractions 4am the following morning but was in labour for 21 hours.

Baby number 2...3 hours from sweep to delivery! Majorly outing...I didn’t even get out of the maternity unit, waters broke in the waiting room & I got pushed into the nearest available room. They were still trying to clean it as I was crowning Blush

Well it's hard to say as a sweep occurs at around the time when you would be expecting to go into labour anyway, so going to labour 24 hours after a sweep it might have happened anyway!

Grumpy19 · 15/07/2020 21:34

Mucus plug and bloody show is the same think I'm sure but mine wasn't bloody. Big, a bit brown snotty looking.

starsdelight · 15/07/2020 21:44

Yes it was definitely my mucus lots of clumps that just basically look like snot. Definitely no blood in it though (sorry gross I know) although I couldn't help but be excited to finally see it 😂 even though I know i could still be days away from labour. It's just the anticipation of it all. Over analysing every little twinge. I had my first at 38 weeks which is probably why I feel like it's taking so long. Nipple stimulation seems to be the only thing that gets my BH going but they don't last long can anyone recommend how long roughly I should do be doing it for? I'm going get on my ball for a few hours hopefully try and things going in anyway I can 🤞🏻 x

I had a sweep at 40+3 and I was already 1cm straight after ru e sweep I started getting period type cramps and by the time I'd got home I was loosing my plug. I was cramping all day 40+4 and was in actual labour that night and I had her 40+5. I feel my sweep defo worked but I think they work best when your bodies already ready for labour Smile
