know the sex even if you ask not to know?

I had my scan and I think I saw a willy. But I asked not to know. Would they even look at this area if you asked not to know or do they look anyway?

They need to look at the whole baby, they are making checks on the health of your baby, so yes they will know most of the time. Obviously sometimes the way the baby is lying can mean they don't, but otherwise they will see.

Yes they will know if they can see it. They are there to check the baby is healthy, so they can't look away Confused

Thanks that makes sense. I just didn't know if they didn't scan over that area if you said you didn't want to find out. Cheers

They have to scan wherever necessary to do the check and measurements that they need, and this will depend on your baby's position. They won't purposefully avoid the baby's genitals.

If it's any reassurance then what might have looked like a willy could have been any number of things, including the cord.

Apparently they do. Someone I know said she and her husband didn't want to find out, and asked the sonographer if the sonographer would still know because they look at the whole baby. The sonographer's response was, "Yes, but to be honest I'll probably have forgotten by the end of the appointment." Shock Grin I mean at least the sonographer was honest...

I could have SWORN I saw a willy at my scan and then I had a girl so 🤷🏻‍♀️

passthegin1234 · 15/07/2020 20:49

Haha honest indeed! I don't really mind either way but now I'm driving myself crazy thinking I should have found out!

We had a scan today and had the exact same thought. Weird to think that they know and we don't know!! They must know as they can pick out things like kidneys from a tiny blob, he pointed them out to us and we were like wait what?? So clearly they can spot boy or girl easily lol. But anyway, still happy to keep it a surprise for now.
