Early scan dates don't match up

I had an reassurance scan this morning, but the dates just don't add up, has any body ever had similar and things have been ok?

I tested positive on the 10th June and would have been about 4 weeks pregnant by then. The scan this morning showed I am only 6 weeks but there was a heartbeat. I haven't had sex since May so I can't be only 6 weeks unless something is wrong. The lady was insistent I had my dates wrong and I have to go back in two weeks for another scan

So were you expecting to be about 8 weeks at your scan?

I was 7+5 from LMP when I went for an early scan but baby only measured 6+1 (with a heartbeat). 2 weeks later, i went back and baby had grown proportionately to 8+2.

I knew the dates weren't right as I'm in a LDR so there was only a small window where I could have conceived but apparently it's fairly common for babies to measure out in the early days....that's why the NHS won't date the pregnancy until you are over 11 weeks.

At my dating scan, my baby had caught up by a week and I'm almost 36 weeks now.

Hi @sel2223
Yes. I was expecting to be about 8 or 9 weeks.
I asked the lady if it could just be measuring small but all she kept saying no it was more likely that I had my dates wrong and to come back in two weeks.

I'm glad to hear your baby did some growing and is all o.k Smile

@ABC12310111213 the fact you saw a heartbeat is a great sign!
The waiting for the follow up scan is awful but you really just have to try and stay positive.

My sonographer was pretty adamant on dates too but i knew it was impossible. It was only through my own research that I realised how common it is. There have been loads of threads on here if you want to search through them, lots of women have been in the same position.

Good luck!

I asked a similar question a few months back. I was 7+2 and measured 6+2. I also saw a HB. I'd had IVF, so my dates were exact. In my case though, I MC at almost 10 weeks.

Many ladies replied saying that too were measuring small, but everything worked out fine and they'd caught up by their 12 week scan. Best of luck Flowers

Hi @sel2223 thank you for the reassurance. I forgot how stressful being pregnant is. Far too many things to worry about. I shall have a look for the other posts.

Hi @elouera
I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Flowers I hope you are doing o.k
