Joie i level car seat flat even whilst driving?!

Is it true the joie i level goes flat even in the car? Seems revolutionary if so. Not the clearest when googling! I'm picking between that and the cybex cloud Z. The cybex can only go flat outside of the car though... Any thoughts on the 2? Thanks :)

Yes I have been looking at the Joie I level.

I read it can go flat when travelling too. Apparently it is quite heavy though.

Have a look at jane pram lie flat car seat that stays flat while in the car and also turns into a sit up one too x

Thankyou! The Jane looks good as it's 180 degrees but don't think will match my travel system.

No that's the only thing, I bought the whole travel system and I love it but they are very expensive and I got it for half price in the January sales xx

I don't think the Jane gets very good safety results. The Joie can be flat(er) in the car, yes, but none of the lie flat ones except the carrycot style are actually flat. I think the Joie is something like 33 degrees as opposed to 45 for normal car seats. Also some people report their baby doesn't like the headrest.

I would also look at:

Joie i-Gemm with i-Advance base - has a choice of tilt angles within the car so you get a better angle.

Nuna Arra - reclines in similar way to Cloud/i-Level (can be reclined in car). Goes on same adapters as Joie/Cybex.

Britax Babysafe 2 i-size with flex base - has an internal recline and a choice of angles on the base, like the i-Gemm. Britax have different adapters but these are available for lots of pushchairs too (Click & Go)

Maxi Cosi Pebble (all variations) - no recline or tilt, but the padding is extremely good at providing a flatter, cocooned surface for the baby. Same adapters as Cybex/Joie.

Avionaut Ultralite (sold in UK under Venicci brand) - no tilt or recline, but has a different design of the shape of the seat which keeps the baby's back straight and their airways in a better supported position. Have a look on their website. Same adapters again as Cybex/Joie.

Maxi Cosi Jade - properly lie flat carrycot with good safety result (although I'm not 100% sure I'm confident about this) however it's quite expensive.

Bear in mind none of the options except the carrycot style actually negate the guidance to keep them in the seat no longer than 30 minutes up to 4 weeks / 2 hours after that. However that's mainly because there's no research on it... it's guidance of course, not the law. So you can make your own judgement.

Agree with BertieBotts. Also there is significant evidence that car travel is safer the more upright the passenger is, so even if a carseat lies flat, I would advise against using it in that position whilst travelling.

Additionally, I wouldn't recommend the Jane as in most cars it has to lie at an angle, and isn't rear facing, which is a big step down in safety.

Having said that, we had to do an emergency cross europe trip when DD was 4 months old, and absolutely had to do the journey in 22 hours and the lie flat carseat was a godsend. However, I wouldn't generally recommend them.

My jane pram car seat doesn't need to be at an angle and it rear faces too altho I'm not sure about forward facing but by the time my little one is he will have a new car seat x
