They will donan internal at 32 weeks then if not moved 35-36 weeks it's the most accurate I had my internal at 32 as it wasnt clear as its posterior.. it was totally fine not actually intrusive at all... my 35+5 will also be an internal as they need to check it's at least 3inch away it was 1inch at 32+2.

LakesLover · 13/07/2020 21:43

Oh yes the horrible waiting, I felt like a ticking time bomb.

I had total PP at 20 and 32 week scan. I had no bleeding until one night when I woke up feeling it trickle. I was surprisingly calm, called an ambulance and went in. Was expecting to be monitored and stay in hospital but they actually did the c-section that day, at 35 weeks.

I had a bag packed and ready (and a mattress protector!).

Wond3rment · 13/07/2020 21:50

I bled at 29 + 1, Grade 4. You will know when / if you have a bleed. It’s best to have a plan for this happening and if you never need to act on the plan that’s great.

For me the placenta never moved, I remained in hospital until 33+3 when I had a major bleed, DS 2 was born following a crash section. He is a gorgeous, healthy 12 year old now.

Lots of rest and look after yourself. I can’t remember the stats but I think it’s something like only 5% of placentas that are "low lying" at the early scan become placenta praevia grade 3 or 4 later in the pregnancy. Your chances of movement are high and positive.

Apsh2020 · 14/07/2020 14:29

I had an internal scan last week at 32 weeks following an ultrasound scan confirming the placenta is still completely covering the exit.
The internal scan was fine (I've had one before years ago so knew what to expect) I did ask if the scan would cause any bleeding and they said no but they kept saying if I felt uncomfortable at all they wouldn't do it.
Follow up appointment tomorrow to get c section booked in I think.
No bleeding yet, hope I stay lucky and avoid it 🤞

Positivity2020 · 14/07/2020 14:33

May I ask at the 32 week scan do they do an abdominal scan first ? And then the internal ?
I’m going to request that I don’t have the internal as I’m so worried about bleeding.
I’m already having a section

LakesLover · 14/07/2020 15:30

At my 32 week scan they did an abdominal scan first and the sonographer said 'it doesnt look like its moved' and then she did an internal to double check.

The internal scan is fine, the sonographer said she wouldn't put it too far up, as obviously they dont want to cause any bleeding.

Apsh2020 · 14/07/2020 16:45

They won't do it unless you are ok it with it - I'm not really sure on the benefits of having an internal one if it's obviously completely covering it.
Maybe ask them to go through the reasons to have it vs the risk of bleeding- mine said it wouldn't cause bleeding so I went ahead.

THNG5 · 14/07/2020 17:41

I had complete placenta previa in my last pregnancy. Except the sonographer telling me that at the 20 week scan, I wasn't given much info. I have 2 other children who were 2 and 8 months and 20 months when I gave birth so I wasn't resting I had one bleed at 30 weeks, was admitted overnight but that was it. I was at Center Parcs the week before my c section 🙈

Avearage · 14/07/2020 20:59

I really hope it's either moved completely or completely covering so there's no ifs and buts around delivery etc, @THNG5 what date did you have a section?

OP posts:
THNG5 · 14/07/2020 21:03

@Avearage at 36+6 but that's only because at 36+5, I went in for a growth scan and the sonographer noticed I had vasa previa as well as placenta previa. If not for that, the consultant had previously told me I'd have a section after 38 weeks.

Positivity2020 · 14/07/2020 21:36

Hope it goes well for you tomorrow @Avearage

Fingerscrossed11 · 14/07/2020 22:23

Can I ask how many of you were told you had low lying placenta at 20 weeks and then again at 32 week scan?
I was told I had low lying placenta at 20 week scan and have 32 weeks scan next week. It’s posterior too. Been trying to work out whether will need CS or not as that’s all they can do isn’t it?

Fingerscrossed11 · 14/07/2020 22:26

Sorry, also is the internal scan painful?
I was told at 20 week scan if bladder was full enough wouldn’t need internal, starting to worry now

Sunsage · 15/07/2020 09:22

Fingerscrossed im the same as you, have my 32 week scan next week to see if it's moved! I'm more intrigued than anything and excited to see LO again.

Avearage I hope it goes okay for you today! Flowers

KLM19 · 15/07/2020 21:07

Fingerscrossed11 80% of womens move by 32 weeks they dont make a big deal of it at the 20 week scan as it's super likely to move... I had my 32 week and hadnt moved but again they dont do anything and no decision will be made about a C section till you are 36 weeks ish.. so try not worry :)

KLM19 · 15/07/2020 21:10

@Fingerscrossed11 it isn't painful at all.. if like me u will likely get an internal if it's not moved significantly as postierior is had to see with a normal scan... but again it is just placed in the opening... having a baby is much harder...

@Seychelles98 my comments are based on the NHS.. same across the board. So guess it depends on where she stays.

Positivity2020 · 19/07/2020 06:47

How did everyone get on at the scans ?( for those of you that had them last few days )

Avearage · 19/07/2020 07:36

Sorry ladies mines this coming Wednesday, I'm so uncomfortable though... Baby has been breech so feels huge eating and well anything is just uncomfortable 😞

OP posts:
Avearage · 19/07/2020 07:39

Mine was completely covering at 20, and 28 I've a scan at 32 again but the midwife says if at 28 it was still completely covering she can't see it being any different at 32 in her experience especially with baby still breech

OP posts:
Avearage · 19/07/2020 08:14

Also some decisions looked to be made at 32 some at 36 @KLM19 @Seychelles98 is that depending on how much is covering at that 32 scan? Or is that hospital based I wonder?

@Avearage I was told by NHS Scotland that no descion will be made prior 35 weeks as there is still the chance it can move. I was told at my 32 week scan to pelvic rest no housework or exercise ect.. my bump took a massive growth spurt at 32+4 so I'm thinking there is a chance it will have moved.. will find out on Friday if it has and what they say :)

Avearage · 19/07/2020 08:57

@KLM19 I'm 31+4 and feeling like surely it can't get much bigger 🤣 very uncomfortable now!! Will be interesting to see as I'm in Midlands what there advice is.... I can't see housework etc being left 😂 I've been on pelvic rest since 20 weeks...

@Avearage Lol that's what I thought but I am now mesuring 4 weeks ahead fundal height lol so can happen!! My couch is my best friend just now also the bed and floor.. I feel so useless and like a bad mum as I just cant do anything.. I'm lucky my boy is 12 and understands. Husband does as much as he cans for someone who works so much.. NHS can vary across the country sometimes I guess and it's all consultant dependent too I suppose.. let me know how you get on with the scan on Wed :)
