I'm 7weeks+4 currently. Already have two children, no sickness first time, a fair bit second time but sickness was away at the end of week 6! I have been ridiculously ill for the last two and a half weeks!! Like no break at all from nausea, vomiting AT LEAST ten times a day mostly during the night.. managing small amounts of water, very little food 😭 any recommendations for anything that helps! I think I've tried all the usual things but in case I've missed any! I rang my Gp (recommended by the midwife) and they're refusing to prescribe anything 😭😭

If you can't keep fluids down you definitely need to go back to the GP! Otherwise you'll end up in hospital. Ask for a different dr if necessary. I was on anti sickness for my whole pregnancy. But in the meantime try fizzy drinks or ice pops if you haven't tried those yet!

Hi,

I had a similar thing, got to the point where I was unable to get out of bed, being sick as soon as I ate or drank anything. I did an online triage with my GP surgery and it told me to call 111 so I did, saw out of hours doctor, they did a urine test which showed I was severely dehydrated and sent me to hospital where I stayed on an IV overnight to get my fluids back.

Whilst the stay wasn't great, hospital did prescribe me 3 anti sickness medications which have completely improved my quality of living and I am now eating and drinking again and haven't been sick since.

Keep trying your GP (maybe ask to speak to a specific one or a different one to last time). Ask specifically for Cyclizine - which is the first anti-emetic they tend to try. I also have proclorperazine and metoclopramide which can be taken with cyclizine. You could also tell midwife that GP is refusing to prescribe as they may be able to twist their arm.

If they still aren't budging, call 111. Tell them that you are vomiting 10+ times a day and that you are concerned about dehydration. They will hopefully take it seriously.

I wish you the best of luck. The medication was a life saver for me and it sounds like you really need it.

Keep contacting the gp but Ice lolly’s and fizzy sweets gave me some relief.

I read something today that said bananas can help with sickness? No idea if it's true and I guess bananas have a very strong smell so if your struggling with smells unsure if this would be any good.

Soon2bemummyof3 · 09/07/2020 18:16

Oh the bananas would make it worse I can't stand them at the best of times 😂
The GP receptionist has just rang and said they e left a script out for promethazine which I can collect tomorrow! It turns out it was a pharmacist I was talking to!! She spoke to the gp and he sorted it! Fingers crossed it helps!! I've never felt so awful in my life! Thank you all so much!

Sorry you're having such a rotten time, I know how you feel.

There are tiers in which they give you anti-emetics, cyclizine tends to be the first and if that doesn't work they move you onto the next.

Ondansetron is seen as the most effective but is also the most expensive so if what you've been given doesn't help then you may just need to be a pain in the arse and keep asking about Ondansetron. I sometimes think these GP's think women should just put up with horrendous nausea and sickness as if it's a rite of passage, it's not, it's bloody miserable and you can't do anything all day.

Pregnancy Sickness Support charity are fantastic and will arm you with all the info and help you need.

Wishing you the best of luck and hope you feel better soon.
