Medicine panic any advice?!

Slightly panicking here - got a nasty hardly bite On my leg earlier which became red and itchy so without thinking out anthisan on it. I couldn’t see anything on the tube saying it’s not ok for pregnant women but then looked online later and said not to use if pregnant or breastfeeding and now panicking. I tried to kind of wash the area I applied it but it had been on my leg a good 20 minutes. The bite is still really itchy and red. I know there is prob not much more I can do, but should I ring my midwife or anything?

I don't know about the safety of Antisan but I really wouldn't panic about one application of it.

I would though take an antihistamine as these are safe enough in pregnancy.

I ended up taking daily antihistamines for a while when pregnant under doctors advice and all was fine.

I probably wouldn't worry too much (but then am more relaxed than some). Ring your midwife if you're concerned.

I think they have to say that about pregnancy and breastfeeding because it hasn't been tested - but then I can't think why anyone would agree to being tested on if something might be harmful to their baby!

If you've got one of those clicker things for insect bites it might be another option?

Is that not an antihistamine cream? I'm sure its fine as its only being applied to your skin

The leaflet says to talk to your doctor before using it. Doesn't say not to use it:

(Pregnancy and breast-feeding*

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.

If you are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

Thanks everyone. I never really know what ‘talk to your doctor’ means In terms of how bad it might be for baby’. Just finding it all really stressful atm feels like everything I do is potentially harmful sometimes and really throws me into a tiz when I feel like I’ve got it wrong 🙁 FTM incase you hadn’t guessed!

It generally means we don't want to take responsibility to say its OK to take so it gets passed to the gp to assess your personal benefit/risk profile and what is the safest treatment for your symptoms. Even paracetamol says speak to your gp before taking it and the NHS page says its safe to take.

If you are concerned speaking to your pharmacist/midwife/gp they will be able to advise the best treatment options
