Pregnancy and Fragmin injections

Hi everyone,

This is one for people who are currently or previously had to use fragmin injections during pregnancy.

I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 (6 weeks according to my early scan). Due to the complications I had after the birth of my daughter (I had a big stroke 4 months postpartum) the doctors want me to start using Fragmin next week. I understand why but I have a strange feeling about using any sort of medication when pregnant - of course I know they wouldn’t prescribe it if it wasn’t safe. I guess I’m just after some reassurance from women that are currently using it or have previous injected Fragmin during pregnancy? Any tips to help me do it everyday?

I’m on Fragmin daily. Currently 25 weeks pregnant and have been taking its since 7/8weeks. This is my eighth and only pregnancy that has made it over 20weeks, but this is the only one I have taken Fragmin with.

You do get use to the injection, as it does sting at the beginning. Mine go into my stomach, alternating sides, each evening at around the same time. You should try pinch the skin and go in at a 90 degree angle, slowly pull the needle out. Expect to bruise slightly (but I’m on aspirin so do bruise quite a lot). I say all this, my I’m petrified of needles, so my neighbour who Is a retired nurse does mine, and there the tips / methods she uses.

congratulations and good luck x

I injected fragments daily with my previous pregnancy and from 6 weeks with this pregnancy. Does sting a bit but it's necessary.

I also have to inject myself with insulin so am used to the needles!
