FTM Hypnobirthing or NCT

Hello

FTM here and am after some advice about classes!

I always thought I would do NCT classes but I'm due in October and all classes for this time would still be virtual.

Has anyone done the virtual NCT classes? Would you recommend? Or has anyone done hypnobirthing instead?

Thank you Smile

No direct help as of yet as I'm about to start my virtual NCT courses on Saturday.

However I have been watching the hypnobirthing classes from the positive birth company (£39 for the pre recorded lectures) and they seem very good. Could something like that work?

I would add I don't think that's it's a complete either/or with NCT and hypnobirthing as the NCT covers a lot of stuff post birth that my Hypno birthing course doesn't seem to even touch.

I’m doing both! NCT, ideally to meet some other local people, and hypnobirthing for me. I’ve bought the PBC pack mentioned above.

I just finished my virtual NCT classes and I found them really helpful. The mums all have a WhatsApp group now which is great as we're all from the same area and due around the same time.

Hypnobirthing is totally different so not really comparable to the NCT classes. Lots of the mums were doing both.

We did the virtual NCT and I’d definitely recommend them. I feel much more informed on what to expect in labour and with breastfeeding - lots of information shared but never in a pushy, ‘you should do this’ way. And it’s great having new mum friends, our what’s app group is very active!

I've done the virtual NCT classes too and I think different people get different things out of them . For me it was a two day course 9.30am - 4pm two days in a row over a weekend and I found it exhausting! It was also quite hard to interact with the session leader - poor Internet connection, frozen screens and talking over one another to ask questions etc. etc.
Having said that the other couples we met were lovely, we all keep in touch and have planned to meet hopefully in the new year.

I agree With others that hypnobirthing is not the same so im doing both but have a book on hypnobirthing instead of doing a class - that way I can do it at my own pace.

Another advocate for the positive birth company online hypnobirthing course, it's brilliant! And covers completely different topics from NCT classes.

I've just booked a hypnobirthing course which I'm really looking forward to, I was after a course to hopefully teach me some relaxing techniques for birth and fingers crossed it will be in person

I did nct and ended up with a really antisocial group of people but other people I have met had great experiences.

I didn't do hypnobirthing but did to pregnancy yoga instead and my class was very focused on coping with labour and positions and breathing which I found great while staying mobile during pregnancy. I recommend that to anyone!

Mrspopp2017 · 08/07/2020 13:11

@welshladywhois40 what a shame your group was so unsociable, one of the main reasons I signed up to NCT was to meet other people, socialise and create a support group 🙁

Don't waste your money, this is all you will need!

My first birth experience was horrible, midwife was shocking and so I had no one to coach me through!

Watched this channel with DH whilst pregnant with our second and learned how to breathe through the contractions, midwife and husband helped me keep going through the hard contractions and also with the gas and air when it got hard!

Had gas & air only even though I was induced and put on a hormone drip!! Breathe and count... trust me 🥰

The only part I did not agree with was that you don't need to push and you can breathe your baby out! 😩

My baby was 9LB 9 and let me tell you I pushed like my life depended on it 🤣

bluemoon2468 · 08/07/2020 18:58

@HMJCMUM to be fair I think the breathing down the baby stuff only works if you have a spontaneous labour, if you're induced you have to forcibly push the baby out.

ablisha · 10/07/2020 11:41

Thank you all! NCT are still charging around £300 for their virtual classes so I'm really unsure whether to part with the money to part honest when it could be saved for the baby!
