Sweep success stories

Hi ladies!

Anyone got any successful sweep stories where it actually put you into labour

Just had my first one at 40+4
Midwife said that I'm 1cm dilated and that she could feel the top of baby's head but that the cervix was still 1.5cm thick

Just wondering if it's worked for anyone and what you did after the sweep to get things moving along! Thank you :)

I've had 2 sweeps both worked within 48 hours.
I think that's roughly the time frame for a likely positive outcome.
Good luck

I went into labour following a second sweep, 3 days after the first. I was 3cm at the second sweep and had baby that night

happygolucky6 · 07/07/2020 21:57

Following thread.

Had first sweep today at 38+1. Stretched to 3cm dilated 80% effaced.

Hope we have babies soon!!!!!

2020firsttimemum · 07/07/2020 21:59

@happygolucky6 how do you know how effaced your are? My midwife didn't tell me!

Hope these babies come soon! I've got another one next Tuesday but if no luck I'll be induced on the Thursday which i really don't want. Fingers crossed for you! Sounds like you're already on your way if you're 3cm!

Yep, sweep at lunchtime, in labour by 8.30pm. No way of knowing if that would have happened anyway though!

Mouthfulofquiz · 07/07/2020 22:10

I had one at 41+4 at midday and had the baby just after midnight. Worked pretty well for me!

Zoey92 · 07/07/2020 22:17

1st sweep 38+4 already 2cm, cervix favourable, had a 2nd sweep at 40+2 3pm on the tuesday had my little girl 4:33am on Wednesday morning

Tronkmanton · 07/07/2020 22:21

Had a sweep at 40+0 and DD1 arrived within 24 hours Smile

Mangomumma · 07/07/2020 22:30

I had a sweep at 39+4 about 10am and the midwife said everything was 'optimum' - 2cm dilated & soft cervix etc. Had my first contraction at 1pm, was in hospital that evening & baby arrived early the next morning. I think the more ready your body is the better your chances.

MissyPG · 07/07/2020 22:34

Had a sweep circa 11 pm, drove home, laboured all night in in off contractions and baby born 11.42am, so just over 12 hours later. Sweep at 38+5, baby born 38+6. Good luck!

newphoneswhodis · 07/07/2020 22:36

I had 3 with both mine. None worked. I don't think they do. You are more likely to go into labour around the time sweeps are happening (40+weeks) therefore all the success stories are just coincidence since labour is imminent anyway.

happygolucky6 · 08/07/2020 06:38

@2020firsttimemum she didn't tell me she wrote it in my notes, have a look at yours may be there?

How are you feeling today?

I am very crampy. Hoping it turns into something.

2020firsttimemum · 08/07/2020 10:36

@happygolucky6

Ooh hopefully that means things are moving for you! Nothing for me unfortunately. Still haven't had a show, and just back twinges and lightening crotch which I've had for over a week. V fed up at 40 + 5 :(

I had a sweep at 41+3 with ds2.
The midwife said it was "so tightly closed up down there" that she could hardly do a sweep and if she didn't know would say I wasn't actually pregnant Shock
I went into labour that night, 2 hours later I had newborn ds in my arms Grin

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/08/2020 18:18

probably should have bothered to rtftGrin
Congrats OP

2020firsttimemum · 07/08/2020 16:23

Thank you! He's 4 weeks old today and I can't quite believe it
