Dental work while pregnant?

Hi everyone, just came on here quickly to ask has anyone had any major dental work done while pregnant?

I'm 15+1 today

I broke my tooth a long while ago but due to fear of the dentist because of a past incident I ignored it for as long as possible

Today I have had this sudden awful tooth ache and paracetamol is doing nothing
I know the tooth needs to be taken out but I'm really worried about having anaesthetic while pregnant and everything I've found on the internet so far just scares me even more? Help really would be appreciated

Thanks

At 18 weeks (I’m 22 weeks +2) I had what I thought was a wisdom tooth rubbing on my gums and causing a nasty infection. After quite a bit of ringing, the out of hours dentist gave me antibiotics. However, after 5 day’s of antibiotics I was still in a lot of pain so I ended up at the out of hrs doctors over a weekend and got given codeine. I then managed to get in at my own dentist who found they I also had a filling that had cracked and food had got into. Anyway to she managed to refill it without antesthetic but she did say that it was fine pregnant. Be aware though dentists cannot do anything that creates particles in the air due to covid so they might not be able to do what they usually would. If I was you, don’t leave it as long as me or I wouldn’t have needed the codeine. I did check everything I was taking with my MW but I’m not one for taking medicines so would preferred to avoid them.

I had a filling without anaesthetic when I was pregnant and it was perfectly fine - it didn't hurt at all.

I didn't have major dental work whilst pregnant (just a check up) but as far as I'm aware a local anaesthetic is fine when pregnant. If you're worried you could always have the work done without the numbing... Will be painful though 😬

The issue now is that it's still emergency treatment only at most dentists.
I had a large filling fall out a few weeks ago but the only option to sort it at the moment is to get the tooth taken out. They're not doing fillings or root canals or anything considered 'non essential'

I cracked a root canal tooth when approx 17 weeks which then went into an abscess and the only option was to have the tooth out (not because of covid, it would have to be taken out anyway). I had to have this done through an emergency dental hospital because of covid, the anaesthetic is not a problem to have a filling/tooth out and dentists prefer to do any treatment in the second trimester. I also had a 5 day course of antibiotics for the abscess.

I have to stress - I am absolutely terrified of the dentist and if I can do it, I promise you can too! The relief has been immense! X
