Pregnancy and Redundancy

Hi, I got my BFP yesterday. How is your due date formally calculated? My period was 6th June, and I have , on average, a 26 day cycle. Online says my due date would be 11th March. Is this how NHS calculate it?

Reason I ask, is that I'm up for redundancy and don't understand the "qualifying week". I find the wording confusing. Does anyone know what the latest date I need to be employed , in order for me to still receive SMP? I am furloughed so not sure if I would even receive MA as I haven't been working for them for weeks! (Unless furlough still counts as an employee?)

Would appreciate any help

Thanks all

Due date is calculated by last period until the 12 week scan.

You need to have worked for 26 weeks before you reach 25 weeks pregnant- so if you get made redundant you won't qualify for statutory maternity pay BUT you would qualify for maternity allowance which is very similar

If you were made redundant and got a new job you would still qualify for maternity leave regardless

@EllieJai44 that's great, thank you. I think even though I'm furloughed, I'm technically still working and employed so will qualify for MA? Thanks for your help!

@kittenpeak you are still classed as employed while furloughed but if you are made redundant before you reach 25 weeks you won't get statutory maternity pay but you will then qualify for maternity allowance- the Furlough is only running till October, will you be 25 weeks by beginning of October? In case the make you redundant straight away?

@EllieJai44 first day of last period was 6th June. Does that start as week 1 day 1? If so 25 weeks is 21st November. Consultation is happening now and I have 3 months notice so Last day will be around 21st November! But as you say maternity allowance is my saviour Halo

Hi

Im in the same boat. Here is a link to a table telling you your qualifying week. You have to be employed still in that week to qualify for SMP.

A good website for advice is Maternity Action as well as Pregnant then screwed on instagram. If you have a union you could contact your rep.
