20 week appointment?

I have my 20 week appointment on Tuesday and wondering what I can expect. I know there is an in-depth scan and an appointment with the midwife but not really sure what for? Is there more tests to be done or just general check up for blood pressure, BMI etc? First timer so no idea what to expect. I haven’t had a scheduled appointment since 12 weeks but have had other scans, 1 private gender scan and one NHS scan for unexplained pains.

Thanks for any info.

I had my 20 week scan last week and there was:

  • detailed anomaly scan
  • BP and urine check with midwife
  • collecting matb1 from midwife
  • whooping cough vaccine (which my hospital was doing on a drop in basis)

No blood tests

After my 20 week scan I saw the midwife and she just took my blood pressure and tested my urine, that was it. I think it is just because midwife appointments have generally been significantly reduced so you're just getting the chance to see someone. I'm very lucky in that I've seen a midwife face to face at every appointment since 16 weeks (29+3 now), but a friend of mine saw a midwife for blood pressure at 20 weeks and not again until 28.

I just had a scan & whooping cough at 20 weeks. Won't see a midwife til 23 weeks to get blood pressure, urine tests & Mat b1 form

They won't check your bmi at 20 weeks
(Unless your area is very different) they only check it at 8 weeks here then no one ever weighs you again afaik.

Thanks all much appreciated. I’m not sure what I was expecting but was thinking it was going to be pretty full on. Glad there’s no bloods lol, I get involuntary sweats and shakes but am not scared of needles 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not sure what my problem is. I’m looking forward to seeing our boy 💙 x

Just a scan if I remember rightly! Ten mins and they do the measurements.
