Pregnancy

Why am I so exhausted?!

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and feeling so tired, absolutely no energy, even just getting up and about is a struggle.

I had a blood test and my haemoglobin levels are fine. I can't remember being this tired during the first pregnancy but then I didn't have a toddler either.

Could there be anything else causing it?

did the blood test also check your iron levels, OP? It could be anaemia

I rang the midwife and asked but they seem to think if haemoglobin levels are fine then iron is too. I was almost hoping they would say I needed iron tablets so then at least I would know how to tackle the tiredness.

Hi OP, I'm 26w and sleep 10h a day. My midwife thinks this is normal way for the body to cope. Do you take prenatal vitamin? I'd say sleep a lot, eat well and get as much rest as possible.

Stress/anxiety (as might happen in a pandemic...) can also show as tiredness.

I was really worn out through my 2nd & early part of 3rd trimester, despite working from home and barely doing anything else with my days, and for me I think it was the combination of 'normal' (if there ever is such a thing) amounts of pregnancy tiredness along with mental weariness from the covid stuff plus planning a house move!

Thanks, yes I go to bed early but up needing to pee. Toddler mostly sleeps through but if teething can be up a few times if it's bad. DH does his fair share too. I'm struggling now with my bump and getting DS changed/dressed. No energy for housework so had a proper emotional freak out and DH has said he will try and do more

We were meant to be moving pre lockdown and now only getting things sorted so I'm just hoping we're in before baby arrives so that probably doesn't help

HI, I am also 29 weeks and have been struggling with exhaustion since about 20 weeks. Also have a toddler. I was getting really breathless doing the smallest of tasks and just having no energy. I had my bloods checked a couple of weeks ago and although my haemoglobin level was normal, my ferritin (iron stores) was really quite low. It's called 'iron deficiency without anaemia'. I'm now taking iron and hoping to start feeling better soon. Maybe ring your GP and ask for a telephone appointment/book in to have your ferritin checked as I don't think they routinely do it.

Thanks I will ring gp and see if they will check 👍
