29 weeks pregnant - only gained 4lbs

This is my second pregnancy and so far I have only gained 4lbs. I am constantly reading posts about women who have put on considerably more but wondered if anyone was like me and only put on a few?

I am in no way trying to limit what I eat and wasnt overweight to start of with (10st 13). I did not have severe sickness at the start - I was only sick twice in the first trimester. I admit I have gone from working in an office snacking everyday to being furloughed around 3 months pregnant and walking considerably more now. I never go hungry and feel as though being at home I'm eating 'better' but no less than before.

My baby is measuring up 'small' but not to the extent that they're worried they just mentioned it to me at my last scan (last week).

I couldn't say how much I gained last time but I'd say it was a lot more by now..

Would just like to hear from others like this?

Hi, I’m 21 weeks so a bit behind you but I haven’t gained any weight so far and in fact weigh about 3kg less than when I conceived. I feel the same as you - I weighed about 10stone 7 when I got pregnant (am now around 10 stone1/2) I also didn’t have bad sickness but feel like I’ve been eating more healthily since lockdown and exercising more.
I’ve got a scan tomorrow so will see how baby is measuring up. I guess if they weren’t overly worried you shouldn’t be either?

I suppose it depends what your BMI was before you were pregnant. If it was on the higher end of healthy or getting into overweight category then only gaining 4 pounds is a good thing. How tall are you?

WutheringShites86 · 01/07/2020 11:34

I've only put on about 6/7 lbs since my booking appointment, coming up to 33 weeks now which I guess means I've only gained the weight of baby, fluid, uterus etc. I may have lost some body fat too as people who haven't seen me through lockdown have said my face is slimmer. I am high bmi though so I think this is in the healthy gain expectations for me. My fundal height measurements show a couple of cms small but nothing to worry about. For me I think it has just been the wine calories I haven't been consuming! I've been eating normally and staying active.

I'm 33 weeks and have gained 11 lbs, I'm measuring on the 10percentile (fundal) but my midwife is happy both with my weight and measurements.

This is completely normal for some, I think I had gained 2lb at your point and now Im 35 weeks Ive gained 8lb, some of us just grow babies with the fat stored in our arsesGrin

userabcname · 01/07/2020 12:01

I know a few women who gained no weight /lost weight during pregnancy. One said she was the lightest she'd ever been after delivery! All had healthy babies.

Anaesthetist83 · 01/07/2020 12:24

Similarly, I’m 32 weeks and have gained about 3kg in total so far. Growth scans all fine (started at 69kg)

Grandmi · 01/07/2020 12:29

My daughter only gained 3kg throughout her pregnancy and the bump was really small...in fact she didn’t really look pregnant at 38 weeks . Baby weighed 7lb 2 and is perfect. Really don’t worry. Eat healthily and carry on walking etc .

Ash06 · 01/07/2020 12:53

I’m 28 weeks and only put on 6lbs so far

Catherine1210 · 01/07/2020 17:41

I’m 25 weeks and have put on 8lb and still don’t have an obvious baby bump, I’m tall and it’s my first baby though, so I’m guessing the extra weight has spread around a bit more x

WhatWouldPennyDo · 01/07/2020 17:45

Goes to show how differently we all put on weight/develop a bump!

Almost 25 weeks here, 8lbs on, (just like @Catherine1210, except I have a visible baby bump) and that takes me to 10s13lbs, so the same weight as @Louisg was at the start of her pregnancy (except that puts me just into the overweight BMI category - appreciate it’s not for pregnancy women and without the baby weight gain of 8lbs I’m not in the category). Bodies are strange and wonderful!

Thank you to everyone who has shared so far. Of course if health professionals aren't worried it can't be bad but it's so nice to hear like minded stories and healthy pregnancies!!

Everyone has made me feel a lot more "normal"!!Thanks
