You're right Louva, I should just take the bloody paracetamol! I think I will.

On a plus note I bought myself some maternity jeans from H&M and tried them on today - not bad at all especially at the bargain sale price of £15. I'm loving the big belly band - it's hugging my bloat very well, looking forward to the baby growing into it!

What are the after pains PopsicleHustler? Doesn't sound like much fun.

angelascott · 05/07/2020 17:22

Why am I going insane... Throwing up all day yesterday and for past few weeks, desperate for something to help take the edge off so I can feel slightly more normal and get some food down me... Gp prescribes me some meds and today I feel much better and have managed some veg, mash and chicken... No sickness just nausea and now I'm worried that something is wrong... Roll on Thursday for my scan x

WhoUsedMyName · 05/07/2020 17:24

@PopsicleHustler oh dear your poor thing long labour ouch! Why does no one tell you about the after pains I thought I was having another baby! Glad it's not just me xx

Onekidnoclue · 05/07/2020 17:38

@PopsicleHustler that’s shit. My DS was over 50 hours. Total crap. Some people seem to fart them out in a water bath and crack on with their day! I’m hoping the issue with DS was him being back to back and this one flies out!

@Dia12 after pains are like contractions with your uterus getting back to it’s normal size. Some people get them and some don’t. I didn’t know they were a thing and didn’t get any at all. Couldn’t for the life of me work out why I was being offered painkillers after the birth. Was very confused and kept pointing at DS and saying I’d had the baby!!! I’m a moron.

PopsicleHustler · 05/07/2020 18:31

The after pains @dia12 is your womb trying to shrink back to its normal size. The more children you have the harder it has to work. And boy oh boy does breastfeeding make it harder. I literally just had to suck it up and breathe through them. They were like contractions. Some women don't really get them. With my 3rd they weren't too bad. But with my 4th they were diabolical.

footprintsintheslow · 05/07/2020 19:27

I've never heard of these after pains. I've certainly never had them and I've breastfed both. Maybe my uterus has never gone back lol!?

LockedDownKnockedUp · 05/07/2020 19:38

@angelascott oh my gosh, so glad I’m not alone! Once I’m awake that’s it. Swear my OH thinks I’m purposely not going back to sleep so I can moan about how tired I am the next day 😂🙈

rozac · 05/07/2020 19:42

Hi everyone :) I had my scan last week, was further than I thought so due Jan 10th. Have felt nausea every day since 6 weeks but its leveled out this week (13 weeks today), which is earlier than with my first. Excited for us all. Can't decide whether to find out gender, didn't with my first but do people think its better to find out with second?! :)

Lauraha85 · 05/07/2020 20:52

@angelascott me tooooo , I have had a bloody fantastic day today , I even rang early pregnancy concerned that all my symptoms have gone ahhhhhhh , driving myself inbloodysane - yes roll on Thursday eeeeeek excored and 💩 💩 it

angelascott · 05/07/2020 21:05

@lauraha85 what did the early pregnancy unit say? I feel like I will be paying for it tomorrow as I have eaten so much today compared to the last few weeks.

I've had a slice of toast
Mash, veg and chicken with gravy
Packet of crisps
Little bit of Angel delight
Strawberries and yoghurt

Cant believe I've kept it all down today and keep thinking ill be sick soon x

SkylinesTurnstiles · 05/07/2020 21:44

Hope everyone is doing good!
Afew of us have our dating scans this week don't we?
Mine is tomorrow morning.. feeling nervous!

Lauraha85 · 05/07/2020 21:46

@angelascott I'm exactly the same I have kept everything down too - how bizarre to say I was feeling so dreadful on Friday- I could even stand the smell of oh mum cooking Sunday dinner when normally I woukd be running for the toilet
They just said I know its anxious times but be assured that symptoms do come and go especially at this stage ( information I actually could of told myself he he 😂)

MissHoney85 · 05/07/2020 21:51

@SkylinesTurnstiles I have my scan on Tuesday afternoon. I'm really nervous, but also feel like it can't come quick enough. I've been counting down to it for so long!

PopsicleHustler · 06/07/2020 05:59

I've already had my dating scan which went really well last thursday and during Jan 18th. I was only 4 days off going by first day of last period. I'm 12 weeks today and csnt wait for the morning sickness to pass boohoo!!!! @onekidnoclue 50 hours!!!! Did you do some of that at home?

PopsicleHustler · 06/07/2020 06:02

@MissHoney85 I know exactly what you mean. I was literally counting down the seconds. And i was nervous too. Not about the scan but the bloods afterwards. I am needlephobic and also it is difficult to get blood out of me. I have awkward veins. So it's hard to find a good place and then eventually when they do get the needle in, blood doesnt come out.
But I just manned up or womaned up, lol and got on with it. Was quite proud of myself.

Hope your scan goes all well for you tomorrow!!!! God willing!

MissHoney85 · 06/07/2020 08:09

@PopsicleHustler thank you! 🙏 I'm fine with having blood taken but I am really nervous about the results. Which I guess is normal! But my OH and I have very different views about what to do if there's a problem so I'm really really hoping we don't have to make that kind of decision.

Lauraha85 · 06/07/2020 08:56

@angelascott oh no mines back ahhhhhh - how are you ???

Onekidnoclue · 06/07/2020 09:12

@PopsicleHustler yes. Most at home. Classic back to back labour, contractions regular and fast but no dilation as baby’s weight is in the wrong place. I kept being sent home as not in active labour. Eventually I crawled across to a midwife as I couldn’t walk and told her I couldn’t go home again, either she put me in a bed or I was going to lie on the floor and die Grin poor woman took pity on me and DS appeared five hours later! We’re yours slow as back to back?

angelascott · 06/07/2020 09:18

@lauraha85 I've felt a little sicky this morning but was nauseous all day yesterday anyway just not sick. I'm hoping that I manage to feel the same or better today and don't be sick although I do feel dreadful x

Hope you start to feel better soon xx

SnookyPook · 06/07/2020 09:45

@Dia12 thinking of you today - hope your scan goes well! Mine is on Weds morning and am also feeling quite nervous. Just want to know what’s going on in there. My symptoms have also eased off a little - I think this is perfectly normal towards the end of the first trimester so try not to worry. Easier said than done though isn’t it?!

Hope everyone else has a good week.

angelascott · 06/07/2020 09:51

@lauraha85 well... That was short lived, breakfast has just gone down the drain 😭😂. Here's hoping the next snack/meal stays down x

PopsicleHustler · 06/07/2020 10:04

@onekidnoclue

Our first child was induced as he was late. Three pessaries it took to get things going and then the contractions were spread out and then finally together when it was getting closer to pushing. That was a 48 hour labour and was just so bloody long and extremely tiring. I was also made to walk from the delivery room to the ward which I found very disgusting. Long recovery and the graze dowwn below were so sore when time to go toilet.

Second child, our first daughter born in 2013, contractions came on naturally at home about midnight. Hubby and I did the business which made me waters break a couple hours later. Hubby had already gone to work before they had broken and I called him to let him know. My best friend came and took me straight to hospital and I had to stay there so they could monitor me. Hubby net us there. The next day they then gave me a pessary which didn't really work. And then they gave me the drip. The drip is the worst thing ever. It is literally back to back contractions and are so intense, its unbearable. I was crying for an epidural. Never got it, mind you. Baby was born 48 hours after my waters first broke at home. She was 3 weeks early and the easiest delivery as she was only 5lbs and didn't hurt a bit. Difficult recovery though. The after pains were quite bad but able to manage.

Third child,my second boy.The waters went at home on the bed, and then called hubby, he works nights , told him my waters have gone. He left work and went to Tesco's to get old trusty maternity pads. Phoned the hospital and then dropped off our 2 kids to aunts house. Went to the hospital but I wasnt dilated enough so sent me home. This was 2016. Managed to labour at home and played word games and watched telly and pottered round the house, giving it a deep clean. By evening, the contractions were getting more intense. Went to hospital and she said you're still not dilated enough. Went home again and then went to get food, this time they were getting more intense and I was even having contractions in the McDonalds drive thru, hubby was so proud how I was managing them and was telling the servers at the drive thru windows, my wife is in labour and proudly pointing at me. Lol. Sat outside hospital and ate the crappy nuggets, and then couldn't take it anymore. Went back into labour ward and get this for a good one! Husband and I had to sit in the waiting area whilst having contractions. Finally got put in a room and then just breathed through them . Given pethidine which makes you feel as drunk as a skunk. Best friend turned up and we all just waited until I was 7cm and went to the water birth room. Absolutely beautiful was so much better and relaxing. then had the gas and air which made me feel even more drunk as a skunk. Lol I'm muslim by the way and have never drunk. Finally 3 hours later at 10am had my second son, 7lbs boy in the birthing pool. So much easier. And would definitely do it again. Recovery was easier this time and I only grazed. After pains Were not so bad though. 32 hour labour from when waters broke at home. And I suppose 15 or so hours from when the contractions started becoming more full on when we were going to crappy McDonalds.

Last baby number 4, my second girl. 32 hour labour. Contractions started at 2am. Funny how everything starts at night or early hours. Got to hospital at about 7am, again not dilated enough sent home. Tried to sleep and so on and had a bath. Hubby and I just tried to stay busy at home playing puzzles and watching movies. We left the kids with my aunt again. Hubby then said your contractions are becoming less and less, shall we just go get the kids, went and got the kids but as we were all planning to leave I was having frequent contractions, went back to hospital and then was told i am only 2 to 3cm. Told them I am staying. Went to antenatal ward and waited it out a bit then at about 5cm went to labour ward and had gas and air. Was high as a kite and then went to the same room to have the pool birth again. Laboured in there for a bit but contractions started to peter out a bit. Got out of the water birth pool and midwife broke my waters. It did speed things up but was just such a tiring labour. Then baby girl was stuck at an awkward position and I wasnt allowed back in the pool again. Then I walked to the toilet, and then that sort of helped baby girl back into the birth canal. Pushed her out in a matter of 2 mins. Was absolutely exhausted and the gas and air was making me throw up , puke and blood. So awful and was just so drained. 32 hours labour from the time contractions started at home until delivery. But probably full on labour from when I left my aunts house to go as couldn't take it anymore! Long recovery and the after pains were just so unbearable. But all of them were totally worth it. I couldn't live without them. I've got 2 girls and 2 boys and so excited to find out what this one is.

Anyone else want to share their labour story/stories? I'd love to hear them. :)

Dia12 · 06/07/2020 10:50

Aw thank you @SnookyPook - worry seems to be the order of the day...everyday!

My scan showed baby at 11+3 (was expecting 11+4) but apparently it's all good.
NT measured at 2.3mm (which is within normal) but it's still really making me panic and no one is wanting to comment on it until the blood results come through. So I guess it's going to drive me crazy until then.
Trying to remain positive and hopeful.

Hope your scan goes well on Wednesday, not long to go.

Dia12 · 06/07/2020 11:00

Oh forgot to mention that I started off on a sour note when I asked the sonographer if I could take a video of the scan for my DH and she sniped back "its a medical procedure not a show and tell".
I'm not generally super sensitive (or maybe I am right now) but I thought that was just unnecessary especially since it's for the father of the child that technically has the same rights as me.

Onekidnoclue · 06/07/2020 11:14

@PopsicleHustler yuck!!! They sound shit! I had pp psychosis with DS and they think sleep deprivation from such a long labour might have been a factor so my MW suggested an induction for this one so I won’t have the same issue.
I’ve heard very mixed things about induction, a couple of friends said it was fast and not too painful but then there are lots of stories like yours!
