@dia12 fingers crossed your scan goes well. Let us know how you get on and how you're feeling. Sending good healing vibes x

@nchristie

Expecting first baby with due date of Jan 19. Had my first scan last week and going back for another in a couple of days because nuchal translucency measurement was high (4.5mm) and that combined with blood tests give 1/33 chance of Down Syndrome. Anyone else higher risk for Downs?

Hi @nchristie welcome to the Jan 21 group! I had my scan last week too but ok for DS. Sorry I can't be of anymore help but fingers crossed everything is ok for you. Have they said what other tests they will do?

@louva I also have to try to have a gluten, dairy and sugar free diet. I think I need to put more effort into consuming calcium.

I didn't realise this group existed until today! I've been given a due date of 29th Jan though my scan isn't until 28th July by which point on that basis I'd be 13+4. This is my second baby and I already feel huge so I don't think I'll be able to keep it quiet for as long this time - last time I didn't tell anyone (except parents) until after my 20 week scan.

@dia12 I hope you're ok - I had a root canal last week after 3 weeks of utter agony - they were trying to put me off but I was terrified it was stressing the baby. Hoping your scan goes well and they can help with the pain soon x

@lauraha85 hope the cyclizine start to work for you soon, they didn't work at all for me and I'm now on some that I take at night for now but having a review tomorrow. Yesterday was a very sicky day with everything I ate coming back up. So far so good today although I still feel nauseous and have headache it's better than being sick x.

@louva thanks for getting back to me. They're going to do another ultrasound and they offered me either NIPT (blood test) or CVS (sample placenta). I'm planning to do NIPT unless the consultant has a compelling reason to do CVS instead as CVS comes with miscarriage risk.

@louva , I have IBS too. It's a real pain in the neck.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, this thread has such a lovely bunch of ppl 💐

I'm a little better wrt to pain but swelling still there and somewhat coming to terms with the fact that I'll have to have some kind of procedure and that I'll survive and it won't kill me!
Well done on getting through a root canal @pigletpie2177 and your chipped tooth agony @PopsicleHustler.
Coronavirus has really exasperated everything. 🤞🏼no more drama after this.

I would second the peppermint tea and sugar free diet to help with bloating. In fact low carb is even better but don't think that's recommended in pregnancy.

Im not even bloated anymore - boobs are still a little sore but that's about it.
Roll on tomorrow morning!

Sorry about your NT measurements. The hanging about waiting for the NIPT bloods is a difficult wait but keep hopeful. I've read lots of stories with positive outcomes. 💐

Dia @Dia12 maybe try nail file to file dow the tooth if where it is chipped is sore. I did that too before going to emergency dentist

Report
Dia12 · 05/07/2020 11:46

Oh I've had a temp filling which has smoothed it all out but it's packed over an infection and the inflammation has spread across the jaw 😞 oh I really wish I could just pull out the filling! Or even the bloody tooth!

Report
Onekidnoclue · 05/07/2020 11:47

@nchristie how long will you need to wait? I know it’s super stressful but if they turned it round and said there a 32 in 33 chance all is totally normal it would be the same facts but sound better. Keep us posted. X

Holy shit @Dia12 that’s horrendous!!! Do you have any private or emergency dentist services you could use? You’re being such a hero and without proper pain relief!! Incredible! Childbirth will seem like a holiday!!!

Holy shit indeed @onekidnoclue, it was all going so smoothly, too good to be true.
I see a private dentist and he'll squeeze me in, thankfully in good hands. But he was avoiding using any X-rays etc for root canal and was hoping the temp filling would get me through the pregnancy.
I haven't taken any paracetamol. It had to happen now didn't it. Pregnant and in the middle of a bloody pandemic 🤯

Report
pigletpie2177 · 05/07/2020 12:18

Oh @dia12 that sounds horrendous! They initially told me the only option during pandemic was extraction and I was in so much pain I told them to do it. Then had to do an X-ray but then said root canal more appropriate. I was on paracetamol, codeine and an ice pack so can't imagine how much pain you're in.

Thanks for the peppermint tea tip, I feel like a walking ball of gas right now so will try that 🙈

nchristie · 05/07/2020 13:53

@onekidnoclue they say NIPT results take five working days. I'm trying to look at it as 97% chance baby won't have Down's rather than focusing on the risk that it will and that's helping. I'll post here once I know the result either way.

@nchristie it’s so hard not knowing. Are you booked in for the test this week? I hope you get good news soon.

@dia12 I had a gum abscess a few weeks back and was given penicillin (prescription given over the phone and DH had to pick it up from them as they wouldn't see me without emptying the entire clinic) and took paracetamol. I spoke to pharmacist but they wouldn't give me anything stronger without a prescription so you'd be ok to take paracetamol if you haven't been. I also spoke to the midwives yesterday and they said I could take paracetamol for some cramping I've been having.

@PopsicleHustler did you get told your IBS would get better with pregnancy? They told me that but it hasn't!

Report
PopsicleHustler · 05/07/2020 16:49

I have suffered with IBS since a young child, unfortunately, it becomes worse when I am upset or anxious over something trivial and small... silly really but I am used to it. My eldest has it too and suffers with it worse than me. He has at least 3 stomach aches a day.

I hope yours eases off for you.
I find distracting my mind helps when I have a stomach ache or on the toilet with it. Naming as many countries as I can lol

@WhoUsedMyName wow incredible! Congratulations! I'm dreading the after pains my darling ! The more you have the worse they are.

Last baby born 2 year ago were bloody unbearable. I think I even asked the midwife for gas and air. Worse when you're breastfeeding too !!!! That's what i am dreading! As well as the long labours!

My body only does long labours. 1st son born 2008 was 48 hour labour.
Second child, 1st daughter another 48 hours.
Third child, second son 36 hours.
Fourth child, born April 2018 was 32 hours!

And then everyone tells me they have quick labours and I just grit my teeth and smile. Why not me too! Lol
