Oh @h1987 you May regret this! I’m tooth obsessed! My gums are bleeding. Do I carry on with interdental brushes which aggravate them or give them a break? Also I have a tooth which moved loads last pregnancy. I’ve now got a gap which I hate. Is this pregnancy the time to move it back???

Ps LOVE “floss like a boss”

@h1987 my dentist isn't even open yet!!

Opelbow · 01/08/2020 07:32

@h1987 I rang the dentist to tell them I'm pregnant. But due to Covid they not seeing anyone and weren't interested.

So I need to push them to give me a check up?

h1987 · 01/08/2020 08:52

Onekidnoclue- I'm glad you care enough about your teeth to ask!

Gums bleeding is usually a sign of them being a bit unhappy. Most of the time it means they're inflamed most likely due to plaque building up along the gum line. So often patients tell me they stop brushing or flossing because it made them bleed when actually it's the lack of flossing or brushing well which causes them to get inflamed which then means at the slight touch they bleed...so it becomes a viscous cycle. My advice is keep brushing and keep use of interdental brushes eventually if you're getting the right areas the gums will stop bleeding. You're likely to need a hygienist clean for it to help healing Remember if you're pregnant you're more likely to get even more bleeding at the slightest amount of plaque build up so definitely keep at it..

Teeth moving is usually a sign of more advanced gum problems or in some situations a dental infection. Definitely needs to be looked at , gums and bone levels assessed.

Either way never ignore bleeding gums just like you wouldn't ignore a bleeding eye or nose. Book in with a dentist to be sure it is diagnosed correctly and treated effectively.

Lydiangel83 and Opelbow - unfortunately covid has severely affected a lot of dental clinics. So it's not that they refuse to see you it's probably that they're not ready or able to

Most NHS practices should at least offer to see anyone or provide advice over the phone if there's an emergency, but the government funding has been really poor and they have not got the right PPE to carry out the routine work they used to do pre-covid. A lot of practices at the start of covid donated all their masks etc to frontline workers at the peak of the pandemic. So I would ask them when they think they'll open and if they're not sure and you feel comfortable enough do seek an exam elsewhere if you're concerned about issues.

It may mean if you struggle to see a dentist on NHS you'll have to go private.

To find an NhS dentist you go onto the NHS choices website...type in your post code under the dental section and it'll give you a list. Go through those and fingers crossed one of them would be able to see you

@h1987 this is very interesting 🤔 my dentist put in a silver filling two weeks ago when I went back the following week she said that because I'm pregnant would have to be changed to a white one. Obviously a white one was a better option in my eyes but was it necessary to put me through it twice 😩

h1987 · 01/08/2020 10:50

@WhoUsedMyName really hard to comment on your particular case as it's dependent on what was found initially by the dentist and what was discussed :)

SnookyPook · 01/08/2020 10:53

@h1987 thanks for the reminder! Due to book my check up so will do so! 😊

h1987 · 01/08/2020 12:23

No problem all! Happy to help. I do have an active Instagram page full of free useful information on all things teeth for adults and children and how to take care of those knashers. I'm also available for advice on there too if anyone would like to know the page drop me a DM and I'll share it

Rexodus · 01/08/2020 12:35

Ive had bleeding gums the past week or so, i’ve also noticed on one of my bleeding gums i have small hard white spots almost like bone! Had a bone graft there about 8 or 10 years ago, so im worried its beginning to show through the gums.

I hope the white fillings go well though at least! Always hated fillings myself too so i hope it’s a speedy appointment!

h1987 · 01/08/2020 13:12

I get my patients to bring something to listen to during their appointments, stick some earphones in. Most dentists won't mind this. Drowns out the noise and keeps you occupied.

WhoUsedMyName · 02/08/2020 10:36

Completely different topic I'm actually embarrassed saying it out loud😳 I'd literally put my life on dh would never cheat on me well I've always felt that way even through pregnancies etc but lately I've been having these awful dreams that he cheats on me an I catch him there really detailed and far fetched and I'm left pregnant.
They are dreams but I wake up generally gutted because they feel so real 🤣I sound crazy!! But yesterday he complemented a mutual friend a lady nothing odd but I felt jealous I've never been jealous at all. 😳 am I losing the plot or shall I blame hormones

@WhoUsedMyName I've been having really vivid dreams and nightmares. I'm thinking it must be the hormones as well. Hope you get a better nights sleep tonight. My shoulder aches from trying to stay sleeping on my left (don't know if I need to be doing this) and I keep waking up around 3/4am for a few hours. Maybe a bit anxious.

WhoUsedMyName · 02/08/2020 17:57

@198435years oh really glad it isn't just me. I don't think it matters what side you sleep on

SnookyPook · 02/08/2020 23:07

I’ve been having quite vivid dreams too - thankfully nothing too traumatic though. I’d definitely blame the hormones @WhoUsedMyName

@198435years Also trying to get used to sleeping on my left! Occasionally switch sides to ease pressure on my hip but have heard that left is best from 2nd trimester so trying to get used to it!

footprintsintheslow · 03/08/2020 05:47

@198435years @WhoUsedMyName left is best especially if you are worried about movements but the right side is fine too just try and avoid lengthy periods flat on your back. Also not to worry if you wake up and realise you've been asleep on your back.

As for dreams I had a dream my husband was kissing someone else last week. Totally absurd. Also I've been having vivid nightmares about the pregnancy. As tired as I am it's a relief to wake up.

lydiangel83 · 03/08/2020 06:30

@annabel1001 does the book include recipes? I know I'm not eating properly and need more protein and less carbs but would be good to get some recipes to help

blueskiesandapples · 03/08/2020 07:35

I'm also having really vivid dreams. Differs every night but last night I dreamt that my brother announced with two hours notice that he was getting married and then told me off for being annoyed that I couldn't get there in time! And the night before I dreamt I was in the car with my parents for some reason, still pregnant, and dad drove the wrong way on the motorway like it was totally normal. Bizarre hormones!
