Hi ladies
Had my 3rd sweep this morning.
She tells me I’ve gone to 2cm dilation.
I don’t understand what -1 Q spikes bit means? From previous notes it’s gone from -2 to -1. Anyone know? Also don’t know what slightly postere means??

Is there a reason why you are having sweeps before 40 weeks? Your body may well not be ready to birth yet. It seems to be getting very common for sweeps to be done early, but there is no good evidence to support that practice.
Anyway, your body is getting ready. The -1 relates to how high the baby is in your pelvis. -2 is higher up, so going the right way. The cervix is usually pointing slightly backwards (posterior) before labour and then moves more into a direct line with vagina once your body is ready to begin labour. The cervix often opens a little some time before birth, particularly if it isn't a first baby, but at least that bit is already done one labour starts!
Good luck- hope baby is soon with you x

@sussexmidwife

I’m having sweeps due to reduced movements and trying to avoid induction. Hey noticed my regular contractions on monitoring and offered a sweep. I’ve now had 3. I have been told though if she’s not ready then she won’t come.

Thank you for explaining it a bit more ☺️
I am a first time mum and all these medical terms are a bit confusing! X

i know what it says :), retired midwife here. lots of info. looks promising OP. the Q is a symbol for the babies head, it's come down slightly based on her measurements.
your cervix is slightly posterior once she was able to reach it, which is perfectly fine.
good luck.
