Lumbar hemivertebra

Hi everyone

I had my 20 week scan today and the sonographer noticed something on the baby’s spine. She said it should hopefully be nothing to worry about but has referred me to a consultant for a second opinion and a 3D scan.

On the report it says ‘Lumbar hemivertebra. There appears to be ? an extra bone or ? small kink in the lumbar spine area’

She said everything else looked fine on the scan.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Sorry you've received this news... I have had the same a couple days ago, baby also has either a missing or very small kidney. How did you later tests go? All OK I hope Could really use some advice x

Sorry to hear that. I was so worried about my scan & we had to wait 3 weeks to have a 3D scan with the consultant, but it was absolutely fine when we did. They did a thorough 3D scan and said baby is completely fine & there are no issues at all. They said sometimes it’s just the position of baby when they’re originally scanned that can make it look like there’s an issue. Hope everything works out well for you too xx

That's great news... Such a relief. We have another scan on Monday so hopefully will be nothing much to worry about.

Just wondering what was the outcome for your baby? Had the 20 week anomaly scan today and sonographer had the suspicion of hemivertebra.
