How early for a reassurance / private scan?

Hi everyone!
First timer here 🥰
Got my BFP last week and I had booked an early scan for 26th July, I’ve just had it moved to 18th July. The first day of my period was 30.05.20 so I will be 6+6 on the day of the scan.

Has anyone else had one this early? Am I setting myself up for not being able to get any reassurance as it’s too early?

Thank you x

This is my current pregnancy at 6 weeks and 4 days. It was transvaginal and I could see the heartbeat. I think the only downside would be if for one reason or another your dates were out by a few days. In which case you could go and see very little. They say 7 weeks + is good for a first ultrasound. Mine was due to previous losses so I didn't choose when to have it, they just gave me a date based on my last period.

Hi ☺️ I was 6+6 when I had my private early scan too. I'd thought I was probably around 8 weeks when I booked it but had no idea due to really long cycles. I had an internal scan and we saw a little jelly bean with a strong heartbeat flickering away! It made me feel so much better seeing it. I have seen people say they haven't seen heartbeat at that stage but remember that every day counts in those early stages and you could have ovulated/implanted slightly later than you thought so dates being ever so slightly out can affect what you see. But from my experience it was certainly reassuring ☺️ best of luck! X

I had two early scans. One at 5+4 and the second at 7+1. They were organised by my local NHS Early Pregnancy Unit, initially to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and the second scan was to check the viability of the pregnancy.

First scan at 5+4 just showed the pregnancy sac containing a tiny yolk sac which was about half the size of a grain of rice. That was it. Way too early. I wasn't given a scan picture as there was nothing to see.

I've attached the scan picture from my second scan at 7+1. As you can see, baby is there, but it was too early to see limbs etc. However, I was shown her heartbeat which was incredibly reassuring.

I've also attached my private 10+4 scan where baby's features are more distinguishable.

I personally would wait till 8-9 weeks if possible to allow for a margin of error with dates. LMP is just a guide and, unless your are 100% sure when you ovulated, may not be that accurate.

I had my first scan at 7+5 from LMP but baby only measured 6+1. I'm now over 33 weeks so everything was fine, I obviously just ovulated late that month, but it caused a lot of stress at the time. I was lucky to see a tiny blob with a heartbeat but was told if I'd been any earlier, there may not have been anything to see yet.

I had a follow up 2 weeks later at 8+2 and there was a big difference into what I could see on the scan. Baby was bigger and more of a familiar shape, the heartbeat was stronger etc.
Plus the chance of MC if you see a heartbeat after 8 weeks goes down considerably.

If I was you I would definitely push it back until you are 8 weeks gone. I had one at what I thought was 8 weeks but they dates me 7+3 so if I had gone much earlier I wouldn’t have felt as reassured! Xxx

I think it’s too early. Like a PP said you’re not allowing any margin of error with dates.

Thanks everyone, I’ve emailed the clinic and asked to move it back. I’d rather wait a little longer than go and be told there’s nothing there but there might be in a week.. gah it’s gonna be a long few weeks!

Yeh it would be worse to go and be told it’s too early.
