Has anybody had sudden vision loss?
It's never happened to me before.

I'm currently hydrated and I've eaten breakfast, lunch and a snack today so I can't see it being blood sugar.

At the minute I have w constant swirl/wavey spot in my peripheral vision and when I try to focus it takes over essential half my vision, to the extent I can't read my phone/see w full picture. For example, my kitchen sink seems to be missing a bit in the middle.

I can type as I have an idea where my letters are but I can't read this back to see if it makes sense so sorry if it doesn't.

Is this worth phoning triage? I don't want to phone up and it be nothing, but I'm also scared of what it could be.

I would ring 111 and if it gets any worse go to A&E

RaN88 · 28/06/2020 15:05

Sounds like a visual migraine but yes definitely talk to someone professional just in case.

geekaMaxima · 28/06/2020 15:06

Call your early pregnancy unit or midwife, just in case.

Sprintfinish · 28/06/2020 15:06

I'm 37w get this about once a week, same as yourself it can happen after eating. I have a BP monitor at home so check that and as I've never had swelling at same time I haven't contacted mat unit.

I find lying down after drinking a few glasses of water and eating something sweet helps clear it up.

But if you are concerned, def make the call. The lack of swelling, and my vision going back to normal after the above is why I didn't. And the normal BP.

sooveritalready · 28/06/2020 15:07

Get yourself checked out OP, midwives would be happy to see you with those symptoms

Babyshine2020 · 28/06/2020 15:13

Thank you
I just got my husband to read your responses back. He thinks I'm mC for posting online but who cares!

I've just been sick so I'm going to have a nap and see if it's better when I wake up, if not I'll phone.

I'm 36! Weeks but I didn't know if it was a -thing- or not

Definitely just ring your midwife/maternity unit. I started getting terrible headaches at 38 weeks, they got me straight in and seen immediately, turned out my blood pressure was through the roof due to pre-eclampsia and I had to be induced.

Polkadotpjs · 28/06/2020 15:15

Definitely get seen

cultkid · 28/06/2020 15:15

I would go in now if you're the husband take her in

MallardtheKing · 28/06/2020 15:16

I would call triage now, before a nap. It's only a phonecall and they'll give you the best advice. You'd never forgive yourself if something went wrong and you'd done nothing and midwife's would rather you call and nothing be wrong than not call at all.

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2020 15:17

OP, I think it's important that you get checked out without delay.

PotteringAlong · 28/06/2020 15:18

I would be in A&E, not arsing about on mumsnet! Get to the hospital now!

PotteringAlong · 28/06/2020 15:19

I’ve just realised you’re off for a nap! No, get some actual medical advice ASAP.

Imonlydoingwhatican · 28/06/2020 15:19

Dont nap, call midwife now. Could just be visual migrane ( i have them regularly) but could be pre c. You dont normally "feel" ill with it thats why its best to be checked out.

MojoJojo71 · 28/06/2020 15:21

Ring immediately, you need to be seen and assessed ASAP

StripeyBananas · 28/06/2020 15:21

No nap, call your midwife unit or go to A and E straight away.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/06/2020 15:22

I made myself all sorts of excuses for feeling “a bit off” towards the end of my pregnancy. Needless to say I took a bag when I went in to get checked out as I suspected I wouldn’t be allowed out again. My pre-eclampsia preemie turns 10 this week! (And I’m still shit at Seeking medical help).

Pack a bag and kindle, go in - with any luck they’ll dip your wee and send you home.

newnameagainz · 28/06/2020 15:22

I had this, started as vision loss and then I would lose muscle control and it looked like I had a stroke.

This started at 37weeks pregnant

It was happening once every few days and then daily, up to twice a day by 39weeks and I ended up in hospital 3 times and having mri scans etc - I had about 10 mins from noticing the "blob" of missing vision in my eye to being completely blind and not being able to move one full side of my body and then once feeling came back after about 20mins, the pounding headache would start.

I was diagnosed with something hemiplegic migraines, common at the end of pregnancy due to hormones changing to prepare for birth that effect your blood vessels to the brain.

I was given a special injectable drug (like an epipen) that I had to inject into my thigh as soon as it started, it fixed the issues within 5 mins and I just had to deal with pain

Definitely get yourself checked out

Babyaug2020x · 28/06/2020 16:38

I used to get visual migraines which sounded exactly like you describe, either way I would deffo give them a call and get seen to just in case it’s a sign of something more sinister x

Fatted · 28/06/2020 16:44

For the love of God woman get yourself to A&E now!!!!!!

I had this. I was 37 weeks. It was pre-eclampsia and I also ended up with Bells palsy. Went to A&E after Dr Google told me (I'd been for a lovely day out at the zoo and went to the hospital on the way home). Got rushed in because my blood pressure was through the roof, had to be kept in for a week because it wasn't coming down with medication and I had my son by c-section at 38 weeks. One side of my face was paralyzed for almost a month and it was only because it was caught early that it didn't last longer.

It might be a false alarm. You might just get hooked up to a monitor for a few hours and then get sent home. But please go and get checked out!!!

StarDanced · 28/06/2020 16:45

Please call your maternity ward. Visual issues can be linked to pre-eclampsia. Definitely worth getting checked out just to be safe.

UnaOfStormhold · 28/06/2020 16:49

Totally agree get checked out asap. Pre-eclampsia is not something to take a chance about and its name reflects that is can come on very quickly.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 28/06/2020 16:59

you absolutely need to be checked out straight away. I lost my vision though at around the same number of weeks and it turned out to be a visual migraine - linked to chocolate I think. I had never had one before but have been prone to them since.

Sprintfinish · 28/06/2020 17:20

How are you feeling OP? I've never felt or been sick during episodes of visual disturbance, so certainly think worth discussing with your local mat unit.

Babyshine2020 · 28/06/2020 17:34

Sorry I did phone before I went for a nap!

The midwife I spoke to was pretty rude to be honest. Her words were "ive asked you our questions and it isn't pregnancy related, you could phone 111 and see if they can get you to see a doctor but I think you're fine. Blurry vision is not a pregnancy issue". I also had to stop our conversation half way through to be sick which she didn't seem at all bothered by!

Ive woken up and my vision is back to normal, I just have a stinking headache and I'm being sick still ..!

And I know people think these threads are useless but as a FTM in lockdown I/we have had little access to antenatal classes and midwife appointments so I'm not sure what is "normal" or "common" and what is a real reason to be concerned.
