16 week midwife app - Lancashire

Good afternoon

Just wondering if anyone can advise if I will get to hear the babys heartbeat at my 16 week app tomorrow. I had an amnio on 22nd June so keen to hear that everything is still okay :)

I know different areas may operate differently so if anyone from Lancashure has had theirs recently and can let me know what to expect that would be great.

Hi! Which part of Lancs you are in might make a difference but I was offered and heard my baby’s heartbeat with a Doppler at 16 weeks (that was about 5 weeks ago) and I’m in lancs. From what I understand from reading stuff on mumsnet it can sometimes depend on midwife and I do think different trusts within the county may have different protocols but you can probably be cautiously optimistic. I was blown away by how quick baby’s heartbeat was but midwife laughed at me and said it’s meant to be like that 😂

Lancashire teaching hospitals did my ante natal care and they asked if I'd like too. So don't think it's routine

I heard baby’s heartbeat at my 16 week in South London. My friend who is a midwife at the same hospital said it’s generally down to midwife confidence as some aren’t as experienced at finding the heartbeat and it then causes more harm than good as the woman then worries/panics that somethings wrong! She’s a relatively new midwife and said she doesn’t tend to as she would hate to worry a mum to be but she’d do it if asked and does it at all the later appointments. I think 16 weeks is just a bit of a tricky one as sometimes it’s easy to pick up and sometimes really hard!
