Have I just had a miscarriage??

Hi all, I'm in complete shock while writing this. I wasn't aware that I was pregnant. I'm on the contraceptive pill (have been back on it for 4 weeks), and a few days ago started bleeding heavily (I'm not on a break week from the pill). I thought I must have missed a pill and this would be why. After going to the toilet earlier, I wiped and some grey, black and red tissue came out of me. At first I thought it may have been a blood clot, however it was much larger than period clots (sorry, TMI). It was strong and couldn't be separated and each end kind of curled round. I couldn't believe what had happened and have been crying for the past few hours about the possibility of it being a MC. Looking online, it looked exactly like a few weeks old embryo or/and placenta. Could it just be a blood clot, or am I right in thinking this? I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience of random miscarriage? For some background, I feel I may have accidentally missed a pill or come back on the pill a day early (the doctor said to wait so many days before intercourse as id been off it a long time). Thanks

It's more likely to be the deciduous caste - basically your uterus lining which can come away all in one go and can look like a fleshy grey sack I'd say maybe the size of your fist for want of a better description

I have had that a couple of times - both times after ectopic pregnancy surgery (so definitely no baby in the uterus) and hormone levels have dropped so quick that it comes away in one go rather than over several days like a normal period - maybe the pill is messing with your hormone levels

Thanks, this gives me hope that it wasn't a miscarriage. I've googled it and this seems possible, it does look similar to a miscarriage so it's hard to tell the difference. This does seem more likely with my situation than a miscarriage, as the pill could be messing with my hormones and I could have missed one which triggered the period. I've been having headaches and feeling lightheaded so think I need to see a Doctor and find out what's going on

Just take a pregnancy test. It should still be positive for upto 2 weeks after a miscarriage or abortion.

Agree with PP that’s it’s probably a decidual cast. Happened to me once. I remember being on my period and having this sudden feeling of something coming out of me (sorry very TMI). I went to the loo and I’d passed tissue that almost looked like flesh, I was terrified. At the time I assumed I’d had a miscarriage. I called 111 who basically told me if it was a miscarriage it was a miscarriage and that was that. It was only later I heard about the cast thing and looking back it was more likely that as I was also on the pill at the time. Hope you’re ok. They’re scary looking things

A pregnancy test will still be positive for a while after a miscarriage so you could always take one to rule it out if you want to.

Thanks everyone, ordered a pregnancy test for tomorrow. I've had bad cramps all day so it makes sense for it to be the caste. It freaked me out more than anything as nothing like this has happened to me before!

Hi all, my test was negative, which I'm quite relieved about if I'm honest. I think it seems likely it was a decidual caste as I am on the combined pill and apparently it's usually influenced by hormones. I'm talking to a doctor about it anyway to see what caused it.
