Haakaa help!

I keep seeing Haakaa pumps being mentioned. I've had a look online and seen the ladybug milk collector, is this the one that would be advised for early days? I know it isnt advisable to pump until 6 weeks but would like to try and build up a bit of a breast milk reserve if possible, would this help me to do that?

Tbh that just looks like a fancy version of the Hakka. The only difference is that it can fit in your bra (if you're planning to wear it in the really early days then it's unlikely you'll be wearing a bra unless your breasts are large...) and it looks like a ladybird. If you want a Hakka then just buy a Hakka, as it's cheaper?

I know the "advice" is don't pump until 6 weeks, but you'll find that you do things that work for your situation. I had to pump from 2 weeks for medical reasons. I originally borrowed an electric pump but found it easier to use a Hakka whilst I was feeding, and then as I got more confident I used a manual pump plus Hakka if I skipped a feed. My supply was amazing and I got litres and litres of milk mainly from just the Hakka which I froze, plus fed my baby for 10 months. I obviously don't know if that's attributed to the pumping before 6 weeks thing or whether it would always have happened, but all of my friends who stuck religiously to that rule had loads of issues breast feeding (and getting their EBF babies to take a bottle) and I didn't have any at all.

You can use a Haakaa to catch the let down on the opposite breast to the one you are feeding from. Some people find they can get enough milk this way that they don’t need to pump.

The Ladybug is a half size version of the standard Haakaa that you can wear in your bra all day. I would probably just get a standard one and use it when feeding to be honest - at least for the first few weeks.
