Baby hiccups - how many times is normal?

I feel my baby hiccup most days, and for the last week or so has been up to 3 times a day.

I googled it and have now scared myself silly reading about cord issues.

I’m 33 weeks tomorrow, should I text my midwife? Is this normal?

I had this and did exactly the same. My midwife said she’d never heard of the terrifying cord thing. But get in touch if you’re worried.

He was very hiccupy when he got out too!

3-4 times a day for me

grace1991 · 23/06/2020 23:54

Allllll the time. Worst case scenario he or she will be a very windy baby 🤣Don't worry 😁😁

Mine was the same and I’d read all sorts about hiccups whilst pregnant. My midwife said the same that’s it’s nothing to worry about and baby is still hiccuping now, 10 months later. Please call your midwife if you’re worried, it will reassure you and be noted on your record.

My second did it all the time, I also read the thing about the cord and freaked out but it turned out to be nothing - she would do it for well over half an hour every day right when I got in bed and keep me awake. Still hiccuped all the time when she was born as well, I think it’s just something some babies do.

One of my DD's did it all the time - kept me awake all hours of the night before she was born. I have no idea what the cord thing is but just to say that after 3 babies nearly 20 years ago, I can't even remember which one was the hiccuper.
I was told hiccups are perfectly normal and nothing to worry about and that turned out to be true. If it helps, whichever one it was - no hiccups after they were born and she was most definitely was a good sleeper because they all were.

If you are worried, Message her...

Are babies movements normal?

Any less at all?

About 3 times a day, usually at similar times each day - I'm 33 weeks today too :). I asked my midwife and she said it was normal to get them so often. I do love feeling the hiccups, so cute!

My dd was the same and I also panicked myself. Do tell your midwife to put your mind at rest. Dd was a hiccupy newborn too Smile

DS hiccuped all the time. I loved feeling him roll around in there, but oh my god the hiccups were irritating.

JuniorMumto1 · 24/06/2020 09:54

I read the same scary things about hiccuping when pregnant! My DS hiccuped quite a lot and even woke me up at night. I used to wake DP up pacing the floor to try and get him to stop. I'd eat or drink and within minutes he seemed to start hiccuping. I called midwife unit too and they said it was normal.

When DC was born, within minutes he started hiccuping.

That being said though, if you are worried always consult a midwife.

Hi op
My baby hiccups a lot! Can be like 5 times a day everyday. I read exactly what you have read and freaked out. Midwife said no need to worry at all.
Iv also had two scans one at 30 weeks and one at 34 weeks and cord is absolutely fine.
So relax I think we may just have windy baby's 🙈

stormtrooperjulian · 24/06/2020 11:10

DS hiccuped 5-6 times a day right up to birth, and hiccuped constantly as a newborn too. When I asked the midwife she said it was normal.
