New mattress? Next2me cot

Just wondering what people's opinions were about the whole new mattress for each baby 'rule' due to SIDS?

My OH's sister is kindly lending me her next2me cot for our first baby due in August which she used with her daughter. It was used for maybe 9/10 months up to a year max and I've got no concerns about the condition.

Would you get a new mattress for it? It has been in storage for about a year so tbh I am swaying more towards getting a new one anyway but was just curious about what others might be doing?

Yeo get a new one bit of you more the dimensions of the next to me one you can get the mattress for cheaper on amazon or eBay brand new

Same for the sheets etc too

Yes, I would get a new mattress. Especially in storage, mattresses can develop mould on the inside.

You don’t need to buy one from the official place (£40). For instance, this website has compatible sizes at cheaper prices babymattressesonline.co.uk/custom-made-mattress-to-fit-chicco-next. I am sure there are other sites too.

I vaguely remember there being a hard removable backing to the mattress which Chicco said to also use under replacement mattresses so just check that.

I would.

We used second hand cots with ours but I would 100% only use a brand new mattress. They're like sponges, who knows what spores could be in there after storage and it's not like you can put them in the washing machine.

New one. 100%

Great, I'll definitely order one, thanks everyone 😊
