Hi I’m looking to get a next to me crib. There’s so many different models for the Chicco brand. I was thinking of getting the pearl grey version. Does anyone have any thoughts or view on it?

That's the one I got, but no first hand experience yet as I am still pregnant.

Hyggemama · 23/06/2020 18:56

Yep I've used one for both babies until they are pulling to stand. Love them, so much easier to roll over and drag them across to feed. It does tend to lead into cosleeping, which worked well for us, but I know not everyone is comfortable with it. Just check the height if your bed as (although the height is adjustable) too low / high wont work with it.

I have the next to me and I like it. Although I'm sure they all do mostly the same thing.
Things I like about it: we have had to incline it slightly because of reflux and it's easy to do, it's fairly transportable (dismantles small), and we easily took the material part off to wash it (got it second hand)

Thank you ladies for your feedback, feel a bit more comfortable now. Just need to check my bed measurements before ordering it.

@Hyggemama surely co sleeping is a choice? Just because you've got a cot that's attached to your bed doesn't mean you'll end up co sleeping, unless that's what you were always planning/ambivalent about anyway.

No one I knew who used a next to me has ended up co sleeping (from what I know) it was all of the people who didn't use one who seem to have ended up doing it.

I'm just pointing this out as I'm quite anti co sleeping (although I accept each to their own etc) and would have been put off buying a Chicco if I'd read that on here, because we didn't want to encourage it. As it was the Chicco was one of the best things we got for the early days so I'm glad I didn't read that kind of "negative" comment, even though I don't think you meant it in that way.

Hyggemama · 23/06/2020 21:36

@Cardboard33 I guess I worded that in a way that could be misunderstood... everyone that I know that's used one is now cosleeping with their older babies (including myself). Then again, we are all pro cosleeping unlike you and yes, we all made a choice to cosleep obviously. I was merely trying to explain Im not sure how much the next2me paved the way for us to later cosleep, as it enabled me to enjoy sharing sleeping space with my baby and feel safe doing so IYSWIM.

I've literally just put mine up for sale on Facebook! 2 kids later and it's still in excellent condition. Excellent choice!

MrsNA · 23/06/2020 21:50

I’m mostly looking to get the next to me for the reason that I can have easy access to her for night feeds and also have her close to me.

Does anyone know the height of the next to me? I looked online and I cant work out if the height is the height the cot's mattress or the top of the railing. My bed stands at 66cm so would need the mattress in the cot to go this high

Cardboard33 · 25/06/2020 07:10

We had this one and the mattress height was roughly the same level as our bed frame height. Including our mattress we were maybe about 5cm higher? I don't remember. Do you mean your frame is 66cm, or is that including your mattress?

On the description here, the 35-52cm is the height that the cot mattress will be and then in the dimensions it says 66-81 which is the entire height upto the top of the crib.

@Hyggemama I know what you mean and I know you didn't intend it to be read like I read it, which is more why I clarified. I think if you're that way inclined then the n2m will pave the way for co sleeping, and that's ok, but it doesn't have to do so if you'd rather not.

Catboysmama · 29/06/2020 08:34

The height of my bed with mattress on top is 66cm. I saw a lady on gumtree was selling one so asked her to measure for me, it doesn't reach unfortunately:-( I saw one in John Lewis but it's over 600 quid!

Cardboard33 · 29/06/2020 12:16

So I've just measured my bed, the frame without the mattress is 45cm then with the mattress on its around 64cm (quite difficult to measure as it had sheets on too) and when we had the next to me attached it wasn't on the highest height setting (it went to 10, and we had it on 7, I think) as that was about 10cm higher... And it seems your bed is a similar height to mine?

What have you been looking at in JL for £600?! We got ours from JL and it was £110 in early 2019. Granted it was half price as it was in the Jan sales, but still!

Can't you buy one and then if your bed is really too tall, which I doubt it will be from the measurements you've given, return it? It seems you just have a normal height bed!

This is the tall one I saw but to be fair it's a cotbed as well! I spoke to someone from chicco sales today and they said the highest it went was 58cm. I've just found out my neighbour has one though! Her little one is now in their own room so she's going to let me take it to see the sizing and then I'll get my own...

Thank you for measuring for me though! It's appreciated Smile our bed is a normal frame but the mattress is much thicker because it's got an igel topper on it.

KnobJockey · 29/06/2020 20:19

I had one within the last year and it was okay, I liked it. My tip would be to go on Facebook and buy one second hand. For the amount of time they are in them, (5 months in our case, big baby) you can buy one for half the price and buy a new mattress. They sell on again afterwards too.

Cardboard33 · 29/06/2020 20:48

@Catboysmama wow that is one expensive item! We got our cot bed from JL, again in the sales, and it was about £100. They told me that the beds are all the same, the difference in price is just related to how they look. Hopefully your neighbours fits!!

@knobjokey is right and is what we'd initially planned to do, however with the sale price it'd be cheaper/the same price as buying one second hand for about £60-80 (going rate in our area at the time) and then buying a new mattress. No way I'd pay £250ish for it!
